I'm absolutely hooked by the Leveson Inquiry 12 Years, 5 Months ago
Probably because I've been - and am still - a part of the media. 50 active years.

Neville Thurlback is fascinating; slippery but intelligent.

But the inquiry just gathers opinions and information - does not challenge.

IMO, this makes it much less interesting than, say, the recent Parliamentary Committees with Murdock(s) being grilled.

It's fascinating but not getting to the real problem : private profit making corporations are undemocratically influencing government policy and law making to the detriment of many citizens and demanding they have no controls imposed upon them...unlike every other private enterprise.

I believe Gary Glitter should be asked to appear and give evidence that despite having served his time (in a dodgy case )and entitled to re-enter society in every way and pursue a career, instead the might of Fleet Street lines up destroy his peace and privacy.

He could speak for thousands of others..a big ask but he may as well.

I think that those in the press who decided Glitter was Public Enemy No.1 knew enough about him (having of course worked with him so much over the previous 20 years) to know he wouldn't have the strength of character to stand up to their bullying. The demonisation of The Bacofoil Berk is beyond parody - but then again so is a would-be super-sleuth reporter who stands up in court and announces "privacy is for paedo's"
The one thing I will say in GG's favour is - as sleazy as he undoubtedly was - he can't of been a "monster" as the sleuths of News International & Waxy Maxy failed to draw any skeletons out of that high profile closet despite hammering that particular nail now for 13 years...

I think they should have lots of inquiries like this so we can watch them all day...really exciting ones about hookers and sex (paedos as well)..traffic accidents..council corruption...everything.

same lawyers and judge.

Leveson updates; Neil Wallis appalling; a typical old school hack; cold as ice.

Tom Crone desperately trying to cry "Nothing to do with me".

And coming across very badly; Leveson clearly doesn't like him.

Tom Crone denying that they 'balanced' up the cost between publishing libel costs and the sale of newspapers...rubbishing the idea.

20 years ago i sued NOTW for libel (case of mistaken identity)..settled immediately..got enough to buy a new car at the time.

I asked a friend there if the hack would get into trouble for such a stupid costly mistake..."no way..libel costs built into extra profit from sale of extra newspapers"

I was very involved with Tom Crone over the one time the Sun and I were sued - by the Pet Shop Boys; they settled out of court for a small sum to charity.

Tom Crone is doing himself no favours - unbelievably shifty; hurting News International; dodging questions - he comes across as a man about to serve a very long time as a guest of Her Majesty.

I do love watching clever barristers at work as they weave a web to ensnare those giving evidence.

The witness box is a terrifying place to be and not even a clever man like crone can avoid tripping up.

fuck charity. I called my new Mini 'Rupert' and adored it for many years until I ran it into the ground.

love seeing Kelvin and others trying to say the NoTW has been vindicated over the Dowler deletions that may not have happened.

I've said it so many times and no-one ever believed me...those who fell for the tabloid nonsense hook, line and sinker are the hacks themselves..Paul McMullan being a prime example but not unique.

In 100 years I forsee Oxford papers being written about the this tiny period when delusional printed oddities like 'newspapers' were taken seriously by an entire nation. What a hoot.

It's the Age of Aquarius and the lights have been turned on and the cockroaches are running for cover.

Colin Myler... "I can't remember..."... "I don't recall..." slippery, nervous, lacking in confidence, muddled, how on earth did these people ever become Editors of major national newspapers. Useless.
