Who is singing about economic troubles? 12 Years, 5 Months ago
The problem with a lot of mainstream music today is that it's non-intellectual, it's not challenging, it has nothing important to say... it's just crap. I don't want to hear another generic love song as long as I live. (I'm sorry but I'm sick of those.)
So where are the rock stars singing about the recession? Where is the rebellion at? Why is it all a bunch of bitches and wimps pretending to be outsiders? Nobody cares how many bitches you fuck or if you get high (yes rappers and hip-hop artists I'm talking to you also)... that might have been rebellious in the 50's and 60's but not anymore.
This youtuber makes the point in this video. You probably don't know who Korn is, just another shitty band out of a million in the USA. Eh, fuck em.

I know what you're saying but must admit that I've gone entirely the other direction, having finished an album of nothing but impossibly escapist stuff for an Italian tenor (more of which later).
Some of the most enduring songs were written during the last depression by Irving Berlin, Gershwin et al. I know how bad things are, and suspect they are going to get worse before they get better. I don't need second-rate songsmiths winding me up.

The younger generation today will only rebel if there's a plasma TV in the bargain. A loathsome, lethargic, muted generation of clones, cultivated by New Labour, employees paid to decide that Baa Baa Black Sheep, golliwogs and Noddy were 'offensive',. Some would tear down barricades for a new pair of trainers or 5 minutes on some reality TV shit, and wouldn't kick over a wheelie bin for anything less.
Not all are like that I must add. I know two young Goths who are incredible. They sometimes popped round for a drink or two and a chinwag (not as often recently:() and together we put the world to rights and planned our revolution.
Goths have so much more eloquence, charm and intelligence than any other group of youngsters in my experience. Perhaps not quite enough aggression to up skittle many apple carts.

I always found Goths and Rockers intelligent and fun to be with even thou I am one I never liked to be called one as it'a label.
I go to non-league football every other Saturday and they play a songs before kick off I don't know whose it by or name of the song I don't really care but it's got a line that goes 'I'm going to her name in my phone and going to put her song on my mp3'.
I admit the songs about revolutions protest are truly over the fact that they don't care as long as they happy in there big houses, big cars, the women, drugs and the money they are happy in their own worlds. Even die hard protesters don't seem to be effective as they were in the sixties either.
