2012... The End Of The World? 12 Years, 4 Months ago

Well now we're here I decided {some might say "belatedly" but I say it's never too late 'til you're late yourself} to do some digging into this Mayan stuff. I got as far as this line from our old friend Wikipedia {a tome not much draped in scholarly cred, I grant you, but you have to start somewhere};
"Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world or a similar catastrophe."
Pardon me, let me run that one past you again just in case you missed it, but with a few little {and bright red} italics just to help you keep ahead of exactly where I'm going with this.
"Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world or a similar catastrophe".
I can hopefully sum this up in just three letters.
WTF?
To expand on that ever so slightly...
What the fuck might be a "similar" catastrophe to the end of the world? Or at the very least, what possible cosmological misadventure {for surely that would be the only kind of event with enough import to rate as "similar"} wouldn't occasion this spotty little oik of a planet doing the big firework itself, thus rendering the word "similar" rather a less usefully accurate one than "also"?
Unless, of course, the "end of the world" was simply a Mayan metaphor for something slightly less cataclysmic but still pretty damn' disappointing anyway, like the Kashmir in Bradford going out of business.
It goes, I think, without saying that I don't think I'm going to do much more research.
I mean. Really....

That's terrible. What tablets are you on? I use Metformin and hadn't noticed any difference. I've been to the Kash a couple of times since my own diagnosis and both times I've noticed a certain "difference", which I'd put down to the fact that nothing of good quality is ever consistently the "same" {uniformity is all very well, but I've found it tends to be more a feature of mass production!}. I'll tell you what, I'll keep trying until I decide that either my taste buds have changed too {which is possible} or I have completely lost my taste for curries {which, let's be honest, is so vanishingly small a possibility that I'm almost tempted to dismiss it out of hand right now}.

OK, I'll give that a go next time we're over there. I only really use the Kash because it's sort of the place we all used to go to mostly 30 years ago {which isn't strictly true, where we actually went was the Taj next door, now incorporated into the Kash}. In those days the curries were about 25p each, and even cheaper at the Shimla... Ahh... great days. Great drunken days. All gone. Thanks for the tip.

LO,I lived in Bradford from 90 to 95,.best years of my life.
One of my girlfriends also lived there for 17 years,and as she lives in Burton we often pop over to the Kash,as it still is her favorite.
My favorite curry house was the Sultan in Lumb Lane,gone now

The Mayans were just a year out. They actually meant the End of The News Of The World. Apparently the Mayans hacked into other tribes smoke rings.
