TOPIC: Leveson - Hislop
#79372
Leveson - Hislop 12 Years, 3 Months ago
It's very difficult to be objective when people you know or have met give evidence (I was on Ian's team in Have I Got News For You) - he always comes across as intelligent, funny and accurate.

But interesting example of the problem we have in the media - Hislop's quoting of "hacking into a murdered girl's phone" - with no correction by Leveson - is precisely the story we are examining.

At the time she was not known to be murdered or even dead.

Conveniently ignored by almost all parties. Judging an event of yesterday by the knowledge of today.

Rather like judging the morality of 35 years ago by the morality and laws of today.

Hislop is usually a very good orator and despite me being bored rigid of this inquiry I'd like to hear him.

It's turning into another celeb reality show.

where is the ordinary citizen who has their life ripped apart by tabloids ?

why is Hislop even giving evidence?

one good thing Hislop prompted:

Leveson says it is a clear example of a need for a low-cost libel tribunal service.

never happen of course.

actually Hislop did have a good contribution to make.

But they are resisting like crazy..the idea that some regulation should be imposed upon them but yet as Hislop points out..PMs have for decades been running things past tabloid and broadsheet editors.

So who runs the country?

It confirms everything I know about hacks..they cannot see the forest for the trees and believe they know what is right for the people...or their own pocket.
