Terrific repeat of a six year old series on BBC2 but sad that so many contributors are dead. Wasn't Barrymore good at his peak though. Why on earth did the tabloids destroy him? Oh come on JK, he destroyed himself. He's an alcoholic/drug addict who needed very tough management to keep his career progressing. Yes, he was very good at his peak, but he wrecked his own career. Agreed, also having someone die in your swimming pool and then fleeing the scene, isn't going to do you any favours either.
I never did care much for his comedy, I found him quite irritating with his Awright!!! catchphrase.

I agree, Barrymore was great at his peak, putting the infamous swimming pool incident aside, I do suspect he would have self destructed anyway with his alcohol and drug addictions.

I thought the celebrity Big Brother thing a few years ago may have helped relaunch him, however I suspect too much damage had already been done to his reputation, although he was still quite popular with lots of people.

As Rik Mayall was quoted in his fantastic 80s sitcom Filthy Rich and Catflap, which is amazingly accurate as a picture of today's celeb culture but done nearly 30 years ago, "Barrymore just says anything John Cleese ever said, ever."
