Time to brand Assad a War Criminal 12 Years, 1 Month ago
Another Bosnia .... another Rwanda ?

Hillary Clinton hinted a couple of weeks ago that there was evidence of war crimes, but said it might be "unhelpful" to brand Assad a war criminal just then.

What she meant, of course, was that they were hoping he would fill a suitcase (with cash !) and flee the country - the easiest way to deal with him. Once he is indicted by the ICC it would be a breach of the Geneva Convention for any country to harbour him or offer sactuary.

If Assad had fled he could always be "dealt with" later.

Russia and China have blood on their hands .... inaction has emboldened the tyrant.

Following the army desertions the first Minister has quit (before the ICC send him an invite !)

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-17295748

The British Ambassador on TV yesterday said he thought the regime was collapsing from within and that Assad would not last the year.

They never learn do they, these tyrants ?

Unless he gets ousted from power a la Gadaffi, I think nothing will really come of this. After all his father and uncle led an even more bloody invasion against the last Syrian uprising in the 1980's and the world stood by and watched. I believe his uncle lives comfortably and free in London now despite being responsible for ordering a a counter-attack which killed thousands of his own people. But then again as we know, he obviously isn't the only one.

Times have moved on, Foz.

Remember Bosnia? The west hurts that it stood by .... even now I believe the west will be infiltrating the country and also (hopefully) supplying arms to the people.

The regime is falling apart ... army desertions and now government ministers too. Its typical of the way these regimes collapse (often from within, as the members realise the "game is up").

One thing is for sure ... Russia / China have made a big mistake - they will lose all influence in the region after the revolution and have made lots of enemies in the Arab world generally.

Yep ! Do you ????

Iraq was a country we INVADED
- not a country where the vast majority want us to help them.

(and unlike the coalition-of-one that MadBush claimed for Iraq ... we would have worldwide support (inc virtually every Arab country) if we acted.

I've done a lot of work in Iraq,it's very similar to Syria,Saddam belonged to the same ruling party as in Syria.
Are you inventing opinion polls again ITK? for how do you come to these conclusions of who supports who?
The reality is nobody can safely tell,as no real research has been done.Yes there is a civil war in parts of Syria, but how do we know how much support any of the participants really has?
We're still paying the price for invading Iraq,an attack on Syria would go much further than its borders, and could easily intensify the kurdish rebellion in Turkey, while weakening any lasting hopes of keeping Iraq as a unified unit.
Remember when oil prices started to go up?

Dont start that nonsense again !

It's clear that the people want the Syrian tyrants out - you dont need opinion polls to tell you what you can see - when every day people demonstrate in the streets and are prepared to be shot rather than continue their miserable lives !!

There is no civil war ... never was (just as there wasn't in Libya either).

Exactly ITK; we must always believe the media and, after all, the fact that some people LIKE the Assad regime is NOT a good story, and that's all that matters.

I'm sure there are a few cemeteries the rebels can destroy when they win - unless they are too busy killing those who disagree with them.

I've been waiting for this to pop-up !

Didn't I see the Jewish symbol on the headstones?

The story is not always as it seems !

You've been doing very well recently here, but anyone who believes the rubbish spouted by the sun is letting himself down.
I met a Tunisian on friday in a Tunisian friterie on Calais Platge.Absolutely hated the arab spring, because he lost his job in tourism, and his mother and sisters can't leave the house now without veils.

I haven't the remotest idea why In The Know is even interested in Syria..under his beliefs they should all be left to fend for themselves no matter what goes on.

however he is right (for once in his life...Murphy's Law says it had to happen)...the 'desecrated graves are billed as BritIsh graves in UK papers and Digger's graves in Aust. & NZ
