At 8.30, the Bleak Shop finished as it had been all through; very funny ideas and script but totally lacking in humour; it must have seemed hilarious on the printed page but simply didn't work on screen. I don't think I laughed or even smiled once.

At 9pm; Dirk Gently on BBC4 - similar; witty ideas and script that simply didn't work.

So I'd put off the last Whitechapel until 10pm on ITV+1 - a mistake both because Dirk Gently wasn't worth bothering with and because it is pleasant rubbish which, at 9pm, mildly amused whereas at 10pm it sent me straight to sleep.

I watched a programme on BBC2 called "The Tube". All about life on the London underground. It included a piece about "One Unders". The term for when somebody falls or jums in front of a train. It happens regularly, and, as it often happens at stations, the CCTV captures the moment. The guys who work for London undergoround, who have to deal with the outcome have my complete admiration.

The Tube is a good / interesting series. Since when does London Underground have that many customer services assistants on the platforms?
