I have a friend who is actually a Bishop. I did say to him once that religion is the problem and that there is a prime difference between being religious and being spiritual - if people were truly spiritual, and not necessarily spiritual to a church or to a rigid belief structure, than religion wouldn't get into the sort of problems it does do. Rigid belief structures, be it Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, are there to impose the doctrines on others - even Atheism is a doctrine of a belief structure, ironically. Spiritualism isn't any of that.

and the Christian countries USA,UK etc are some of the most murderous who claim "god is on their side"

Yes; oddly, Buddhism (which is not a religion but a philosophy) makes most sense of all to me, as an ItDoesntMatterIst.

very fond of Buddhism and I find it hard to dispute it...I recall reading a Thai newspaper...that dreadful PM Thaksin had said he would clean up drugs within 18 months and a few thousand "suspected drug dealers" were shot by cops.

One reporter asked a police chief who had shot 17 dead in Northern Thailand if he was worried about his karma having shot would may have been innocent men....he replied "no-it was their karma to leave this plane of existence via him".

I visit more churches (mainly for historical / archeological reasons) than anyone I know - esp those who claim to be religious.

I pity whoever has to sit near that old bore once he settles into High Table at Cambridge. I've always wondered - do people who enter the Church learn to speak in that weird way, or do people who speak in that weird way get drawn into the Church? Also: does he not realise that his eyebrows are in urgent need of a trim, or is it some puritanical CofE rebellion against vanity? Would God really be that bothered if he got the scissors out and did some pruning?
