I really don't like Geldorf although I've only met him once...but he was the snootiest c*nt I've met from the rock scene.

I also think he was an absolute bastard to Michael Hutchence who was the loviest bloke and a far greater star than Geldorf.

That said..I'm glad he actually kept Paula & Michael's daughter so she was brought up with her half siblings but then he was a fucking nightmare nasty prick to her grandparents who were very reasonable people...both have now died and never got to see Micheal's daughter in their lat years.

I had quite a lot to do with Kel Hutchence who was a civilised and lovely man..heart broken by Geldorf's rgid attitude.

He is hypocrite no one can stop poverty in Africa, Band Aid is for his benefit if he was anti establishment then he would of refused his Knighthood like Keith Richards.

I remember I never went people I know went there and apparently he was more a dick. Margate is one town that can never be revamped since Dreamland closed no more tourism the new art gallery is a huge expensive disappointment according to reviews.

'Give us your fuckin' money..NOW!!' You cannot talk to people like that whatever the cause. I was appalled at the time and still remain so.

And he made the mistake of believing throwing money at the situation was the answer.

Actually Bob never said this, he has been mis-quoted for 25 years. He said "give us your money, then later on said "f**k the address, they need the phone numbers".

Bob's main income was through numerous business, for example he created deckchair.com ( a travel website) and was also behind the big breakfast tv show. I think that he has every right to call himself a pop star, 2 number ones in the late 70's (2 more than the proprieter of this site), and numerous other top ten hits.
I disagree that live aid was a bad gig. I thought it was a great gig, although I only watched it on tv. Virtually every major artist of the time was performing. MacCartney, Queen, Bowie, Duran, spandau, Springsteen, Jagger, Madonna, Tina Turner and numerous others. The performance by Queen
has gone into the annuls of musical history. As for Band Aid has there been a better Christmas song since then, I don't think so.
As for treating Michael Hutchence (such a nice guy, if been drug addled and sex crazed is your idea of been nice), well he did run off with his wife, he's hardly going to welcome him with open arms. If Michael Hutchence hadn't come along, I think Paula Yates would still be with us today.

Bob did indeed "make his money" from several ventures - all created out of the boost his image received through Live Aid.

I hated the concert - bad sound, bad performances - only Queen had the sense to rehearse and practice a brilliant 15 minute Greatest Hits set and ruthlessly use it as a promotional tool.

I far preferred We Are The World as a song.

Bob shook hands with the devil. I wish him well.

As soon as I wake up every day,
I look at the papers to see what they say,
I know most what I read will be a lot of lies,
But then you learn really fast to
read between the lines,
'Cos I know (he knows)
What I read ain't true
I know (he knows)
And I'm telling you
I know (he knows)
If they say it's red, it's blue
Don't believe what you read,
Do you believe what you read?
No, I don't believe what I read.

Sorry JK and other Geldof detractors, I loved Live Aid and Band Aid's single and hate We Are The World, even though I had the album. Best song on the album was Prince's Tears In Your Eyes. Sure there is a lot of Western patronising in both projects but no matter how small it was, some good came as a result of all of this. As one who was in Africa at the time I was not impressed with the misinformation spread by all concerned. USA (a country) for Africa (a continent) was also not accurate as only a small part of Africa received any aid. Band Aid's awful lyric "No rain or river flows" was specific to Ethiopia but the song generalised it to the whole continent. There are other ignorant lyrics in the song as well. There were a lot more help given by Africans themselves, none of which made any news in the UK, because it suited the powers that be to depict Africa as a dark continent with people living in the Stone age. I commend all the people who tried to help and I actually think Geldof did genuinely try to help. He and St Bono are really naive about how to change the world. The truth is ,the only people with real power to change things are the govts of the West who play no small part in exacerbating the local wars that breed famine and misery. Ordinary people are really powerless. But better they do something than nothing at all.

Also JK I hate to call you out on attacking Geldof whilst buying into the Kony 2012 video. The same problems with Geldof are blatantly evident in the whole Kony 2012 saga and with the whole Jason Russell meltdown (with the redemption and media circus to come) I wonder who the Kony 2012 video is really about. With all good deeds there comes some celebrity benefits and a lot of the Live Aid performers benefitted from their appearance but arguably Live Aid was an iconic event that has spawned a million and one copycats. But to quote St Paul

"It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice."

But I agree with rebuking those who do things with forked tongues, so on that basis I agree with telling Geldof and others off for profiting from their charitable acts.
