TOPIC: Rape rape rape...

Rape rape rape... 12 Years ago
I see the report in the nationals has a woman's explanation that she was raped as essentially "I drank so much that I passed out and I think someone gave me a date rape drug"... you know what? If you're unconscious anyway through over indulgence, a date rape drug isn't going to make much difference.

I agree, the more of these cases I hear about, the more I am convinced that 80% of the time it is due to the womans own stupidity that she ends up in this situation.

I am not trying to condone rape for one second, however when a woman gets extremely intoxicated and ends up at some blokes house after only meeting him a few hours previously this must surely be asking for trouble.

It is then all too easy for the woman to cry rape, possibly due to her own feelings of guilt or shame for whatever has happened willingly or not.

I wouldn't dream of being that specific, Andrew, without knowing much more detail about the case than simply what's reported in the media.

Although there are too many cases of people been falsely accused of rape, the fact is that a large percentage of rapes go unreported. This is due to many factors including the thought of not been taken seriously and the stigma of been raped, and also the fact that convictions are so rare that most women don't see reporting it as been futile.

Equally I don't think that having sex whilst been intoxicated of your own free will is grounds for rape, as Harriot Harmon was trying to make law a few years ago.

I'm far from convinced by this "unreported" tabloid myth; I actually believe the reason for the low conviction rate is that most are simply NOT rape. It's the definition of the word we need to tighten up and clarify and - in my opinion - other crimes need to be established that are not "rape" but should still be punished.

At the moment the ones I hear about are done by footballers, I don't know the details what happened but seems to me everyone was pissed or stoned had a threesome they can't remember what happened and assume it's rape. Or had good rampant sex with a footballer and trying to get money and set up a false allegation.
