London to be "shut down" for the Olympics ! 11 Years, 11 Months ago
What did I tell you ???

===

Drivers are being urged to avoid central London from mid-July as the transport network gears up for the Olympic Games.
The Olympic Route Network (ORN), a 109-mile network of roads linking Games venues from mid-July, is being brought in for the duration of the Games.

"During the Games, London will be turned into a massive sporting and cultural venue," London's transport commissioner Peter Hendy said.

Nothing new here.

All cities virtually close down when hosting meetings of World Leaders, Olympics, World Cups etc.

With security and transport issues, this temporary inconvenience is inevitable and acceptable.

If it wasn't, people would campaign against having them at all - and, by and large, they don't!

We'll see !

When people realise they will need an extra hour - each way - to get to work we'll soon hear them squealing !

It will have NOW !

As they avoid the 109 miles of routes that they CANNOT use they should be aware the REST will be full of security, tanks, armed police, missile launchers and drones !!!

What fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be making a trip to London 2 or so weeks before, then nothing until perhaps before Christmas.

For some, sadly, but for millions of others it's a complete nightmare (which will drive our economy into recession)

Many people - the elderly, for example - don't want their TV schedules disrupted by synchronised swimming (pouncing about in the water while waving ribbons !) or lesbian boxing.

This is a corporate event - aimed soley at lining corporations' pockets and you seem to have fallen for it entirely.

After all, IF there was actually a demand there wouldn't be millions of tickets left, would there?

Very wise, Steve - but watch out the disruption starts well before the event starts.

Why couldn't they shove all judges, media etc INSIDE the village (and build a wall around it !) then the vast majority would not have their lives disrupted in this way?

UK crime will soar - as all available police are deployed to London - and Britain will slump into recession again

The Olympics will bring us into recession, disrupt TV schedules (a new one!) and traffic - and cause a crime wave outside London. It is a corporate event, with no public demand for it.

So says ITK.

Some of think otherwise and that it will be a great success.

ITK, I recall, wasn't that keen on the Jubilee either and, of course, the World Cup is out of the question.

Is he, I wonder, in favour of ANY major event (sporting/Royal/political) being staged in the UK?

Or is the cost and disruption too much to bear?

Dozens of adverts for tickets in yesterday's Metro, Josh !

Pass ANY travel agency and you will see a window-ful of adverts for tickets.

Some success.

Early days?????

Less than 50 days to go .... and they've been trying to flog the tickets for over a year for this "once in a lifetime" event that "everyone" is SO keen to see !

www.liveolympictickets.com

you can even flog the tickets that you already bought -

Steve Wright's show (Radio Two) just discussed the huge slump in London hotel bookings during the Olympics; the fact that there are thousands and thousands of unsold tickets - with 40 days to go !!! - and the huge boost in overseas holiday bookings (with people clamouring to get away from "the biggest non-event of all time" !)

Here in Sydney, 50% of tickets were unsold a month before; yet 99% were sold for every event. Google it.

The chaos has started !

Thousands of London bus drivers are on strike today - demanding extra money, just for doing their jobs !!!!

You can contemplate the Olympic dream as you trudge to work in the pouring rain LOL !
