TOPIC: Rare record of the day.......

Rare record of the day....... 17 Years, 7 Months ago
I am delighted to have got hold of a copy of John`s Children`s "Desdemona". It`s a classic, and the picture cover appears to have a postcard glued to it, instead of being printed.
I can`t really tip it, but the guy warbling at the back and playing guitar became a massive star.
I will be surprised if nobody can guess who it was, and no googleing, or that`s cheating!

Excuse me Mart I'm not allowed to play this game as the person in question was sitting on the carpet which is in front of me now at that very time playing me his new songs on my guitar! Or should I say RUG? Dugareedug.

Ok then, a special one for yourself.
Which band did the lead vocalist(not the guitarist) go on to front in the seventies? (2 minor hits, but lots of airplay)
Anybody who gets both answers correct wins, errrrm, nothing but accolade!

It`s on Track. Not sure about Simon being involved.
Nobody has come up with the answer to the second question yet!
It was indeed Marc Feld, and he sounds like he is kicking up a racket in the wrong band!

Oh yes Simon was VERY involved!

Can't think of the other band though I'm sure I know it.

Is this a trick question, Martin - or an I just not understanding you?

The bands were Tyrannasausus Rex (probably spelt properly) and latterly T-Rex

I think you've misunderstood ITK... 17 Years, 7 Months ago
there were other band members who had limited success in other bands - I think John was one... Simon tells me he's still getting calls from John asking to be recorded!

Simon Napier-Bell didn't put the group together, he just gave them (Silence) a new name (after the bass player) and later he replaced the orginal guitarist with Marc Bolan.

As I have a brief tour from tomorrow... 17 Years, 7 Months ago
..Heres the final answer.
Andy Ellison, on vocals, ended up in a band signed to Chiswick called the Radio Stars. They made TOTP in 1978 with "Nervous Wreck", and the big push came later with a cracker of a pop song called " From A Rabbit".
I met him twice as a kid, at his gigs, and had no idea he was from Johns Children.
I have no idea what he is doing now, also.
The "B" side of "Nervous Wreck", is written by Marc Bolan, and is called "Horrible Breath (you scare me to death)".
Anyone at our gigs in Nottingham over the next three days please say hi!, and more quizzie stuff please!
I don`t think you googled JK, as I know the stories, but I do believe Andy is shorter than Marc was, and so it would appear the band may have been put together.
Nobody likes a band of differing hights.
Peter Crouch on bass???Nah..
Good trivia though innit?

Are you still in touch with Simon? Last I heard he was somewhere like Thailand. I did some mixes for him on a project for Russia (Smash) that sold millions !

He comes to England about once a year and we were due to have dinner on his last visit but had to cancel through ill health.

Well, much as I adore this record.. 17 Years, 7 Months ago

Can I have the Japanese copy linked above for Christmas please!
It is quite notable that little Marc has been removed from the cover, and after Googling merrily, aparently it was after a row with Simon over the "B" side not being written by himself.
I have also found that Johns Children are still doing the odd gig, and I must say that after playing a Radio Stars record last night, the sound changed little since leaving Track and going on to Chiswick.
For lovers of 60/70s pub rock trivia and record, do not miss BBC4, Friday at 9 pm, about Stiff Records.
