He was indeed on Rock School with Gene Simmons - a kind of reality show, but not like Pop Idol or Big Brother. Gene Simmons recognised his talent, then writers/producers Ray Hedges and Nigel Butler decided to work with Chris on a few songs. It was only after they had recorded the songs and toured round various record companies that they were signed by RCA. So, it wasn't quite the quick, easy, X-Factor style package. There was a bit of actual work involved, and it has taken around a year to get the track released, with a few live performances to keep interest going along the way.
I don't think that he's been hyped any more than most other artist.
