Interesting questions... 17 Years, 7 Months ago
What percentage of DOWNLOAD ONLY singles are from iTunes?

Are the "majors" yet hyping downloads? What does it cost to "buy" 2000 Lily Allen singles to a corporation? Under

so I guess he's bound for a fairly high position, especially once his physical release hits the shops. I notice there's a limited edition vinyl, as well as the CD.

Yes and wasn't he in one of those reality TV shows?
And signed to a "big" deal by a new major label MD determined to make a splash?

Further proof of my post above?

Are they still hyping the chart?

Opinions - and PROOF - please!

to buy records into the downloads charts 17 Years, 7 Months ago
is easier and cheaper compared to buying in "real" shops.

I've read in Simon Napier-Bell's book (Black Vinyl White Power) that when John(?) Kennedy became president of the britisch IFPI (1996), he acted successfully against the chart-hypers.

Is this true? And how long did it last?

not sure the lil chris thing proves what you're talking about JK, reality shows are a tried and tested way to go for a quick win for the majors (although obviously you have to question the longetivity of a kid who can't sing!)

still, nothing would surprise me when it comes to the big boys, desperate times and all that....

He was indeed on Rock School with Gene Simmons - a kind of reality show, but not like Pop Idol or Big Brother. Gene Simmons recognised his talent, then writers/producers Ray Hedges and Nigel Butler decided to work with Chris on a few songs. It was only after they had recorded the songs and toured round various record companies that they were signed by RCA. So, it wasn't quite the quick, easy, X-Factor style package. There was a bit of actual work involved, and it has taken around a year to get the track released, with a few live performances to keep interest going along the way.

I don't think that he's been hyped any more than most other artist.

The transcript of an BBC Radio Suffolk interview with Lil' Chris is here.
