Oh Mar!

Is Hyping going on. I believe the answer lies somewhere between NO and NOT VERY WELL.

Though internet buying may appear cheaper, unlike popping into your local Woolworths with a bunch of fivers, with internet and downloading, you leave a trail.

Also, you have to weigh up risk against value. Is it worth taking the risk of ruining your (and your artists) reputation/career when only a VERY HIGH chart placing has any valuable meaning these days?

Some say it's now cheaper to hype because sales are lower. But even if that's true, it makes spotting hyping easier too. It's all relative. (also, I suspect OCC's comuters are more sohisticated these days!).

My belief is, the investment is not worth the results - or the risk.

Over to you.....

Trail left... yes.

Can it be falsified... very easily, most certainly possible for even a mediocre IT 'expert'.

Multiple bank accounts / credit cards could be a slight problem but how far does anyone check this?

Regarding Scissors doing well - a FOAF asked if the new album was available at the local ASDA, it wasn't yet, the sales assistant did comment something to the effect of 'Loads of people have been asking for that'

Anecdotal I realise but suggests guenuine interest in that particular Elton John Tribute Band.

As for hype, it would be strange if there weren't any.
