I'm working with a band who are currently giving not only a single away for free download - but also all of the parts... so people can remix it...with the promise the best one will be released next year...

Does the open source apprach raise profile and get industry attention?

Or are bands giving away their hard efforts for nothing?

Get the single and the parts at www.rebuslovesyou.com

or hear their cover of Duran Duran - Girls on Film at:

www.myspace.com/rebus

Your MySpace link doesn't work (these days most don't).

And I can't hear your single on your site.

I wouldn't say it would raise profile but it certainly opens up the field, more mixes, more exposure. Don't be afraid of it being mixed and used on the underground either, if it's popular it'll soon get picked up.

My old my Jin's vox on "Out Of Touch" was originally a Karaoke track. Uniting Nations picked it up, the rest is history.

I'm very much a fan/supporter of Open Source in pracice and principle.

I don't know if there's any immediate and direct benefit for you, only time will tell that, but I applaud your contribution.

Anything that encourages other musicians is great.

You never know that by allowing others to use and contribute material could produce something remarkable. Standing on the shoulders of giants and all that.

Cool - nice one.

I too have had problems with Myspace so can't hear the new song, but looking at your post it doesn't look as if it's there anyway?

Couldn't find it to listen to on the Rebus Loves You site either.... apart from if I fill in the form. I would think that at least 90% of people won't want to fill in the form for a tune they haven't heard. Not really very good exposure is it? At least have a streaming version.

Sort it art John!

Just put any old junk in the form - remember an @ for the email addy.

Reason No 2 on Why it's Stupid to Ask for Details BEFORE you dish the goodies - you just get junk email addies from those who don't just leave
