Is the Ipod generation going to go half deaf? 19 Years ago
|

I'm typing this while at work, my office contains several people all sitting at their desks with just one ear piece from their Ipod (or in my case mp3 Walkman, much cooler!) in their ear and working away!
This way we still get to listen to music and converse/work at the same time...
So are we all going to end up half deaf??

Whilst I appreciate the i-pod/mp3 generation, I actually find it very rude to be talking to someone, when they have a sound reciever in their ear.
I actually shouted at a client recently, for not removing the bluetooth attachment from his ear, after I had twice asked him. He had booked a meeting and kept taking calls during it, and being the age I am, this was causing a very confusing conversation.
I am not into i-pods at work, if you need a communication enviroment, then surely every decent person, will turn the mobile off as well, when in a meeting.

Vinyl? Wassat??
It's funny but on my month music buying spree recently I came back with more records than ever before!
The size of the vinyl section in HMV on Oxford Street has certainly grown!
I then have the job of transferring the vinyl to my PC so I can listen to it at work on my Walkman!

Putting vinyl onto the PC, is a total pain. Even when you have managed to get the levels right, Windows creates it into a massive file which you can spend ages shrinking down.
I gave up on this hobby, and bought a brand new deck instead.
Some of the new heavy-weight pressings you can buy in the megastores are very good indeed, obvioulsy, they do not fit in the car, but are they not, a joy to handle and behold?
I can`t stand it , when I rip a cd booklet because it fits too tightly in the jewel case, many of mine have never even seen the light of day due to the tightness.

There must hundreds of readers on this board, that used to listen to a terrible tinny radio in one ear at bedtime.
Mine was actually confiscated when I was ten years old by a teacher, at around eight o`clock one evening during the "Kid" Jenson show.(they claimed the noise(!) was keeping everyone awake!
Thus this formed the habit of writing songs in my head, which has shaped my entire human-beingness...
My teeth, used to make a great drum machine, and I soon worked out , that by moving my jaw, in various angles, I could make any classic Tony Visconti produced drum sound, although notably, I probably nearly then had my teeth confiscated as well, after attempting the opening fill from Elvis`s "CCRider".
Actually, I have just tried that one, and I can still do it!
My teeth are as strong as vinyl.......

Ah, I get to cheat Martin! I have a standalone cd recorder so can burn cd's direct. Of course if a track skips then it's a pain but you can't have everything!
The quality of vinyl has improved vastly in recent terms and of course there is nothing to compare to listening to your favorite album whilst holding/reading the cover. Plus having colour vinyl etc..
A lot of my vinyl purchases come from charidee shops, a great and usually cheap way to discover old music (maybe I should add that to the other thread??). The only problem is you have to wade through piles of old JK records to get to anything good!

I can honestly say, that when record hunting, I have yet to find one of JK`s.
You do tend to find a lot of Roger Daltrey and Slade LP`s.
We have had a thread like this previously, about how much music you can pick up, in a second hand shop for how little.
With the advent of Ebay, this has become more difficult due to inflating prices.
Which brings us up to current things (quite neatly),one of my favourite record shops, has a programme installed on his computer, which outbids you automatically towards the end of the auction, until he gets the highest possible price.
Re: ear pieces on tiny radios?I seem to remember replacing it several times at the extortionate fee of 5p!
This could well be
