Shirley Bassey - can anyone get this out in time to be Xmas No1? 17 Years, 6 Months ago
As it happens she DOES shop in M&S; I bumped into her in there 5 years ago!

Seriously, that could be the OUT OF NOWHERE seasonal hit but I'll bet it's not yet placed and, with the delays (why? why? why?) in iTunes getting product up on their site (75% of all singles sales?) and the impossible physicals situation, it could miss the bus.

WHY? Pop music is meant to be instant, surely?

Which harkens back neatly to the future of music thread.
Ms Basseys recording of the Pink song, with todays technoledgy, could have been released in hours for saleable download on the net, for all I know it might have been, I`m not a fan of it.

I alwayslike the description of her singing as "The voice that destroys everything in it's path".

Nobody else could have done the Goldfinger theme and survived.

I hope somebody will release the track - she most certainly deserves public acclaim. She was and is one of the true stars.

Just watched the ad again during Deal Or No Deal; she really looks amazing in it and the time is just right for the Grand Diva treatment; more bright red than pink.

Just seen it again and it`s brilliant, it already is the sound of Christmas for me, everybody else had best collect thir cardigans(ooops pun alert), now. When you think about the ad it is pure genius. THE UK Christmas shop, with THE UK Christmas number one.
M&S do have their own in shop record label, and they, for all I know have already snagged(2nd pun alert)), this track which will be bought alongside Nannie`s sweater.
I know I have ribbed (oh for heavens sake Mart),)the Bryan Ferry collection at the shop, but I do wonder if they have made him record a track as well, and if they did , what it was.
Wouldn`t everyone just love to see and hear him croon " Whats that coming over the hill is it a jumper?", as Santa gently sales into the sky accross a snowy M&S highstreet with happy hatted and scarved, warm winter coated shoppers?

For anyone who hasn't seen it, the YouTube link 17 Years, 6 Months ago

And she's going to be 70 in January.
Can you believe THAT? (She looks 20 years younger than me in the ad).

The present Mrs Grandpa Harley reckons they've retouched her arms... (She knows these things...)

BTW, I mentioned this a few days ago... Pretty resounding silence on the comment..

It is quite brilliant but her styling makes her look more like Sheila Ferguson than traditional Ms Bassey!

Why is she such an icon??? 17 Years, 6 Months ago
She hasn't had a hit for what? - 40 years?
Can ANYONE name ANY of her albums?
It's not as if she's just had a mega tour or anything.

Why has she remained an "icon" when others of her era have simply faded away?

(btw - I thought the advert fairly amusing - nothing more - and if it was to be a Christmas No 1 (which of course it is not) then I'll quit the business as I obviously haven't got the faintest idea !

The record is an EMI title according to my Advertising friends so a chance to alleviate the Brazillian debt looms .

I was listening to it today, and there is a very obvious extention point in the track that could easily put in, for correct release length.
