.........nobody was available for a gig I needed a brass section for.
Whilst tearing my hair out , I, in sheer stupidity went to an AOL chat room,(yes ,I know very sad) and typed the words "brass section required".
And unbelievebly? I have hooked up with a very brilliant guy, good cv, who has sorted the whole job out.
I have worked with some very good guys because of the internet, but this one takes the biscuit!
This definetly makes a case for an "AOL live musicians" chat room, the message boards work very well indeed, as do the industry boards, but when I can fix a sensible deal up as quick as that, it cuts through the paperwork like a rhino through and, in this case, a worryingly unstable fence.
Sheer desperation, over and out, or Desperately Seeking Saxophones over and out, take your pick.

Nice one, I think you got very lucky there. Most of the people I've met through placing ad's on the web have turned out to be total wasters or complete loonies!

Martin If you ever get stuck for musicians, try this guy
he looks after thousands of them and has been one of
the leading session agents for over 20 years

Cheers NITK.
It`s an irritating job sometimes, I have to nail a contract, and particularly with brass players , the client needs to know who is turning up to do the job,as they have this(brass sections) habit of all sending a dep, which I appreciate, for their own livelihood, but when I promise a "so and so" who worked with "so and so", I am starting to get naffed off with getting "sos and so`s" 2nd cousin!
Cheers for the tip though, and for all that don`t know I fix sessions, if that helps anyone.

A musician rang me last week as one of the sites I administer had a biog of his band (probably the only one on the web, as it happens). He asked to come over and I was worried about spending an hour with a loonie. Turns out he has a fun party rap for the French market.

You really never can tell. It reminds me of the old joke that airline safety statistics mean nothing when you get on the wrong plane. Except in reverse. Every so often the random encounter leads somewhere.

I have had my unfair share of nutters Michael, I have learnt to know which questions to ask as a result.
I met Kev via this forum and we do a lot of work together and eat major curries also!
I think the internet has now grown up enough that most of us can see through the pretenders and wannabies.
My entire live working unit came via the net, and are as close as a tight fist, saying that, if I had not experienced time wasters in the past, I would not have seen the pound coins hidden in the mud.
All part of life expierience innit?
