Music Moguls 8 Years, 3 Months ago
New BBC4 documentary series starting tonight.

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p039w64c

Three-part series revealing the secret history of pop and rock from the men and women who pull the strings behind the scenes.

Programme one tells the story of the maverick managers who controlled the careers of megastar artists, from Colonel Parker (Elvis) right the way up to Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber). Along the way are rollicking tales of industry legends like Led Zeppelin's Peter Grant, and Don Arden, who managed the Small Faces, Black Sabbath and ELO.

Narrated by Simon Napier-Bell, it also features contributions from Andrew Loog Oldham (the Rolling Stones), Jon Landau (Bruce Springsteen), Bill Curbishley (the Who), Paul McGuinness (U2) and Jonathan Dickins (Adele).

JK deserves an episode of his own, but no doubt they'll find a way to avoid mentioning him.

Sadly, yes. I was tipped off via Simon himself about this and you're quite right. No room for JK. Perhaps I don't warrant inclusion anyway.

You are being uncharacteristically modest JK.

Not as uncharacteristic as all that Andy if you knew the real JK as opposed to the media image.

Part 2 tonight also excellent, tracing the role of the record producer from Joe Meek to today, with the majority of contributors also being producers.

If JK had posted his photo of Steve Levine this week instead of last week we'd have all recognized him after the number of times he appeared in this documentary.

Next week looks at PR, with stunts organized by Keith Altham amongst others. I'm sure JK has been behind plenty of PR stunts over the years, but as with the previous programmes, I'm sure he'll not be mentioned.

I'm really enjoying this series though I wasn't as keen on this one as I was the first; perhaps it was too close to home! I remember helping Nile and Bernard after they had signed but before they had even been released and I know he remembers it too.
