His band is good, it's not ELO as I knew them but it's a very good band he's got together. As for Lynne himself, the voice struggles at times, and he's as flat as a witch's tit on some notes. But he is 72. His new album goes straight to Number 1. That isn't bad going at all for a concept that disbanded back in 1986. Love Jeff's story where he says he became a rock star so he didn't have to get up at 6 on a freezing cold dark morning. I'm convinced that's how most Rock stars happen.
Thump! Thump! Thump! he does love his drums, old Jeff. I gather he gets that sound by placing some mics close to the drums, and another row of them further away but cranked up. Something like that. It's very distinctive but, dare I say, a bit monotonous and sometimes ear-bleedingly over the top. I like his live band. They put on a really good show.
