TOPIC: Eurovision boycott
#242529
Eurovision boycott 1 Month ago
If organisers feel they should not allow or be influenced by political issues why have they banned Russia from taking part? Especially when Israel's invasion of Gaza and massacre of thousands of innocent citizens is far, far worse than anything happening in Ukraine. Dear Eurovision - don't pick sides. We represent HUMANITY - a much larger community than small chunks of land.

There is no moral equivalence between the two. Ukraine did not cross into Russia and randomly murder innocent unarmed civilians and anyone, men, women and children that moved in sight of an automatic weapon.

What year was Eurovision genuinely last non political anyway? The whole reason Ukraine won in 2022 was political, nothing more. The song was irrelevant. There again, it's no longer even a song contest is it, the visuals are seen as more important now. I suspect Israel will fail to make the final at Eurovision anyway, and if they do get through they will come last.

Agree with most of your post Ethan apart from the moral point. Excuses for invading a neighbouring country may be different but morally both are wrong.

I very much doubt there will be the massive kind of politically motivated sympathy vote for Israel at Eurovision this year that will propel them to win the contest like Ukraine managed to pull off at the UK's expense two years ago, but just suppose for a moment that Israel does win Eurovision, would that mean a large scale boycott of Eurovision 2025 in Tel Aviv next year or a much diminished line up?
