This one seems to have flown under the radar somewhat.
Martin Lee, lead singer on our winning 1976 entry for Brotherhood Of Man has passed away on 29th September after a short illness aged 77.

They were still together with the original 1976 winning line up who had all the big hits and a couple of other No1 hits right up until the present time although they stopped touring in 2020. They had even managed a minor top thirty hit album as recently as 2019, their first album to chart in almost forty years.

He seemed like a lovely guy and a talented songwriter, a bit cheesy for some people, but at 8 or 9 years old i loved this song and it brought another win for the uk in the Eurovision, something we have only achieved twice in the 48 years since.
He co-wrote the song with the other male member of the group and their manager I believe. Some people think that they copied Abba, but only because there were 2 wholesome boys and 2 wholesome gie of the road pop songs. They had many other hits and continued up until covid playing small theates, and butlins etc.
I saw them in a biggish theatre but they were part of the package. The tour may have been a flop because they never came down again nor did the other groups. It does seem there was money and popularity for the 1960's nostalgia package gigs. Even Paul Jones from Manfreds is still going depsite being over 80.
I think they even did things like working man clubs like Chicory Trip seems to do now or car fetes around the South East. They came and went very quickly, I wonder if they got ripped off also.
The Butlins circuit may seem corny but there is a lot of money in it, they also do attract some very big names e.g. Nazareth Echo and The Bunnymen. It's nice to see the Darts are still going on the small circuit along with David Essex.
I am shocked Racey are still going, but I have no clue how many of the original members are in the band.
I hate that most old bands have music made by keyboards/ synths with dodgy midi files. A bit like many re-recordings we were fooled into buying in the 80s and 90s. Then in the small print would say "Re-recordings using as many of the original members as possible" in the inlay cards not on the back, depending on the record label.
