TOPIC: Phones at venues

Phones at venues 1 Month, 1 Week ago
I see numerous signs and had PA at gigs about not taking photos or videos at shows. Yet, people do.

If a nightclub wants to be strict on phones then let the club owner's do what they want. I never understood why people take pictures of their meals in restaurants.
I have not been to the cinema in year's but heard people take pictures of themselves in the cinema.

People need to realise all their social media accounts are echo chambers. I never had the urge to a video at gig, yet I have had some selfish twats filming gigs in my eye view.

Bob Dylan makes people put their phones in a pouch before his gigs and they are unlocked at the end, so I've heard. I think its a good ideal. People should live in the moment and not film the moment, until to watch it later, or probably never at all. Its also annoying for other people I think a lot of people just go to big events to say that they have been there and show-off on instagram. When i was at Wimbledon, some young people near me were just continually taking photos of themselves and not taking much notice of the tennis. They just wanted to tell their mates, I'm at Wimbledon centre court, whilst you poor saps are at work.

Bob Dylan has no phone zone at his concerts. You are searched to make sure no phones are on you, they are either in a pouch or you put them in a locker depending on the venue.

Dylan has stopped bans but people have smuggled in small recording devices to upload online, unless it's the sound guy who does it.

A lot of people at Wimbledon have little interest in sport but they have money to burn to fulfil their egos. I have no idea why people take selfies on public transport.

I remember seeing a Fureys concert the lady next to me taking pictures on some big ass tablet, was the local candidate for Labour. I didn't know she was until I saw her canvassing outside. Money does not buy class.

Kate Bush had a similar 'ban' in her concerts in 2014, which was 99% respected and enabled people to stay 'in the moment' and witness what was the most extraordinary show I have ever seen.

ABBA Voyage is similar in that respect, banning all recording, but for different reasons- it is an out of this world experience, a blend of very live as well as recorded music, all directed by ABBA themselves. I was at the 2nd performance, and took loads of videos and photos, but that would not be tolerated now.

Let's stay in the moment.
