New Project that May Interest Some of You 18 Years ago
We are putting together a compilation CD entitled "One Minute".
The object being, that all the tracks on the album are exactly sixty seconds long, and will require a beginning and conclusion, i.e, no cutting of the track ,although a one minute edit is acceptable, as long as the hooks are there.
Any bands/acts up for this get in touch.
The final object , is to create the shortest full record ever.
Anyone who fancies this get in touch.
The last comp we put together, was rushed out, and had very little time to fit acts in from around the country.
We have time on this one, so it would be nice if you guys could give this some thought.

Thank you

Martin K

this has already been done in scotland, some DIY lads up here brought out an album (with exactly your concept) a few years back called the littlest album. think it was on 7".

Yes, I do realise, it is not a completely original format, I just fancied the challenge.
I think Wire crammed about 30 tracks into 40 minutes in 1977.
In the last hour, since my various postings, I have got four acts.

Doesn't matter that it's been done (everything's been done!) - it sounds like a great idea. My favourite version of the theme is "Short Music For Short People" on Fat Wreck. Lots of random punk stuff, but a few surprising moments of genius too.

It's on Amazon - www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/stores/d.../-/music/B00000J631/

I'd love to hear a modern UK compilation with a range of ideas and styles. Don't forget UK Music Week across commercial radio from April 24 - we'll be looking for nice new stuff! (It'll be back later in the year too...)

We have created quite a lot of interest today, and have 7 acts on board, in fact I think 9.
60 second songs are very easy to fit around programming, especially when the news is about to be broadcast on the hour.
Another daft and exciting project from MKM, and please continue to purchase our "Eccentric Elvis "cd for charity.
Was that a plug?
Yup!

Martin,

We've got a song that's dead on the one minute. How do I get you an MP3? I'm being dub, I expect, but I can't find a way to e-mail you...

I have dropped my e-mail address to your site 18 Years ago
The one minute MP3s are coming in at less than 1 meg on the whole, what is already becoming interesting , and many ways frustrating, about this project, is you want the song to carry on! But that is the idea...the onion bhaji without the chicken tikka masala to follow.
I live in hope of finding the big massive, gut wrenching over the top ballad, to finish the record off.An idea that I have, is to add strings to the opening track, and use it again at the end as a reprise.
Thanks for your interest.

No deadline really KZ 18 Years ago
It has come together quicker than I had thought already, but I do not intend to release this one until July-August, as we are still charging around promoting the last one.
As I have said earlier, MP3 quality is fine on this one.
I will master it all here.
For anyone who owns a copy of the Elvis one we have just done, it is of note , that track 3, was delivered on a cassette tape!
I am away in May, so just before or just after is perfect.

...which site did you go to, and where did you add your address? I've looked everywhere that I can think of and can't find anything. This probably points to one thing: I broke the website with the last security patch.

Best to drop me a line direct to chris AT stryngs DOT com. Sorry for the screwup.

Quick update on the the "One Minute" project.. 18 Years ago
Thanks for reading.
I could still do with some more songs, for anyone interested in working on this particularly strange album.
The most notable thing that I have noticed , is that we have no R+B, or any female vocalists.
Should anyone know any "1 minuters", please tip them the word, about the album.
Another interesting point that has emerged already on this, is how hearing less, really does attract the ear, to wanting to hear more.
I didn`t intend to make a record of tasters, for acts, but it is emerging as that as well.
It was suggested to me today, to bring out the longer version of the record as a limited edition!
Tempted, but no!!!

hey martin hopefully i'll solve 2 of these problems by doing an r&b song with a female fronting it.

hi martin,

it sounds like a blast and I like the unusual aspect to this project -
quite avante-garde in a way.

so long as you can be off'the'wall then I too would have some
fun doing a track for your 1 minute CD.

tricky bit is how to reach you..

Hi David 18 Years ago
E-mail through to boardkeeper only, or go to

www.mkitcher.com

and click contact.

The project is slightly avent garde, but, it is aimed at being commercial, and yet, frustrating.
I want the songs to get really good, catch the listener, and then stop dead.
Interestingly enough, one of my good friends, has written one that peaks, in one minute, which is very clever! You kind of think, with that track, woah! it`s finished already!
The main idea, as it is emerging, is to make the listener, put it on again and again, because they did not get fulfilled, by the short listening time.

Update.. 18 Years ago
We have fourteen finished tracks, and of course fourteen minutes running time currently!
And of course with such short songs, there are no "album fillers".
Keep them coming guys.

Re:New Project that May Interest Some of You 18 Years ago
hi martin - will the tracks or medley-of-tracks be available over iTunes.

If that wasn't in the game plan it may be worth a thought... You could string
5 or 10 tracks together and sell them as one track over iTunes for 79p
and get sales from all over the world.

Just a thought ... Im still thinking what I can do for your cool project ..

another thing Martin, is this originals only type project or can covers be submitted .. I was thinking about doing a 1 minute electro/quirky version of
"Let's Twist Again".
