Top of the Pops 30th April 18 Years ago
Tom Jones live didn't quite work on the otherwise excellent Chicane hit.
Dirty Pretty Things did their unremarkable small hit.
Bang Bang You Shot Me Down is a better song.
Graham Coxon played all the instruments on his new album.
He might have been better off spending the time writing some good songs.
It's all a Blur to me.
Snow Patrol going nowhere.
What's all this not shaving? I hate it. Either grow a fucking beard or don't. Bloody Geldof started it.
Personal hygiene problems.
Jamie Cullum, one of my very least favourite artistes, did his latest single.
Munchkin music.
The Futureheads... ah, the first interesting thing on the show.
Nice rock syncopation.
And out with Gnarley Barley... the biggest hit of the year and arguably the best.
Hopefully they will be featuring in our Record of the Year Show unless the brain dead ITV executives decide to make records called Crazy ineligible.
Well, not quite out... a bit of live Chilis which looked as good as when we first saw it.

I still have to rate Chicane so highly. Not biased at all:woohoo:
Didnt rate much else, but I did like the amount of people"playing" on stage.
Not a bad show at all.
Snow Patrol.. why are the guitarist`s either side of the singer using current techno gear ,(I noticed the wondeful red Zoom pedal) whilst he has an ancient effects board?
Quite liked them though, E-Street Band with an English voice , their new cd.

harpo-ing on

Re:Top of the Pops 30th April 18 Years ago
agree with most of it.
i dont get snow patrol...have you noticed theres barely ever any melody in their songs apart from the voice?
there are never any guitar riffs,no harmonies etc..

dirty pretty things are rubbish!
no chance of a new blur or oasis there!

i would say gnarls is the best pop song of the last 3 years!
whjat would you put up against it?
for me it would be 'crazy in love'(how long ago was that?)
thought the chilis were great!

Cynical Mind

Re:Top of the Pops 30th April 18 Years ago
To be fair, I don't get Top of The Pops either. It should probably be shipped out along with Grandstand.

I really think they don't know who their target audience is anymore. Some of the choices for hosts have been appalling.

What does everyone else think?

Shows like The Album Chart Show and even CD:UK seem to be more on the ball than TOTP. They also look and sound better. Sometimes when bands perform live on TOTP the sound and mixing is abismal!

A simple and very arrogant TOTP post, and answer to the above thread.
I would be overjoyed to host it.
It needs doing properly, and does not need this "X Factor" or "Celeb Come Dancing" ethic.
The whole terrestrial TV music thing needs a shake up.
It is not helping sales.
