I have searched the web and shops for this and turned up zilch.
We need a third guitar on one number live, does anyone know of a pedal, of which I can trigger this from the bass guitar?
I don`t want to go back to click tracks, I don`t normally get stumped on gear, but this problem has done it big time.
Isn`t it awful when you cannot entertain with the sounds that are in your head?

Don't quite follow, what do you need to trigger, the volume of the third guitar?

When you say trigger from the bass... do you mean play the same notes but in a different (guitar) voice? Or do you mean trigger separate phrases on the third guitar?

What I need, is major chords, fired from the bass guitar, as and when is needed.

What are your requirements for the third guitar? A PCM module or similar? Anything specific?

I spoke to a guy yesterday, and it would to be a pcm module, although he didn`t think it was a good idea from a bass. Ideas?

These are the options I would research (I'm not an expert):

1. Feed the notes you play on the bass through something like a Digitech Vocal harmoniser. This box (there's a whole family AFAIK) generates complex harmonies. It's main job is to take a single vocal line and make it sound like the Beach Boys... but you can see how it might help in your case. I'm guessing that you can get a MIDI feed of the chords out to your module. They certainly have footswitches to bypass.

2. Set-up a keyboard to play the guitar parts from single notes. An onboard chord section will do this and if you only want major chords that makes it fairly simple. The Roland VX modules have decent guitars but I suggest you shop around and listen to a bunch before you plump.

With this option you would need to play the single notes, but you could use MIDI organ pedals.

3. Click-track - you probably don't even want to go there.

4. Jesus Jones used a wide variety of samples triggered from various stomp boxes. In the day he got his soldering iron out but you can get many different one-off or step thru triggers to MIDI these days. You probably won't find one that does exactly what you want as its main function, so some research is required.

e.g. Behringer FBC1010 but I haven't been through the spec. to check it does chords.

That's all I know, there might be a better way...

The one I discussed yesterday, was a program, that would play the exact chord, as long as I put the correct arpeggios in , at four to the bar, I quite like his idea, although obviously it would be unusable for a whole show.
The frontman from Muse, I am told, had his effects pedals installed in his guitar, or at least asked for it. Whether they did it or not I do not know.
Thank you very much for your input on this, it is a wierd problem, it is easy to do from the guitar point of view, but very hard from the bassist`s.
i.e. The guitarists can just enter root notes on the bass, which I believe Jack White does.
It`s a funny one, I`ve allways loved my retro gear, but I now want to get in front of the competition.

I suppose one way to go (not necessarily suitable) would be to transfer to a MIDI guitar and generate bass from that. That would be easier, and I guess more in the Jack White line.

I looked at a few MIDI pedals online today and it looks like you can do just about anything with some of them but A. your playing with your feet and B. they're not very intuitive.

No I havent Rob, I thought I would try here first.
I searched all the usual shops, and I think I am going to get a whole bass customised, as the drum machine is also run by feet , for extra power, on some bits, I will end up tap dancing too much!
A friend of mine, who is on the last album we put out, has so much software, he actually now sits down whilst playing live.(he didnt have a clue as to what I need sadly).
Don`t you you just love the internet? My monthly sets of strings all arrived today, in a lovely box, without me suffering anyone playing "Stairway to heaven" in a music shop!
And whilst I`m at it, my mate still has a bizzare Casio midi guitar, which he still uses, and it survived the boot of his van opening, (as he had not shut it properly), went skidding accross three lanes of traffic in Bournemouth, and survived unmarked.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, and what an incredibly lucky git he was !
