As predicted on here last year cult indie band NEDS ATOMIC DUSTBIN return to the fray with their first single for 10 years due for release on June 5th.
In a new departure for the former Sony Top 10 band they have embraced My Space and the single is being sold electronically and via mail order only, supported by just 3 key launch shows in Birmingham amd London.
In addition the marketing campaign has shunned regular routes to see things like promo videos ( see it on the link below ) spread via the interent as a viral campaign rather than expecting loads of radio play.
Yes it has been played by Steve Lamacq and several other radio stations ( see their website ) but the success of the single will be purely down to the My Space and kids and former fans getting involved in buying it through non tradional sources, unless radio jumps on the bandwagon of their own accord.
Neds have linked up with leading download supplier 7 digital who are also involved in several of the football singles that come out on the same day ( 5 June )
Whether the band can reach its fanbase using mainly the internet and My Space remains to be seen, but it is certainly a bold move by a band who have had a reaonably good chart record in the past and still perform to busy and sold out venues when they tour.
The single also features a remix of a previous Top 10 hit "Kill your television" and a series of Classic Neds T-Shirts are available as well.
Is this the future of the way singles and albums will be sold and marketed ?
