Re:Going back further - well into Joe Meek 18 Years, 2 Months ago
Anyone can bet their ass that engineers and producers know all about Joe Meek. Funny I haven't been here for a few days and 2 days ago someone was asking me about Joe Meek's sound. There is a national Target commercial in the States right now that totally cops Joe Meek....that's how that conversation got started (someone asking me about that commercial...quite a good one at that).

Tom Jones has a very funny Joe Meek story...too long to tell here.

Re:Yes Andrew do try The Cryin Shames (brilliant) but John Leyton and Heinz made some good sounds... 18 Years, 2 Months ago
Ah Heinz was my first pop idol. He wasn't a great vocalist and has been overlooked but he was a very good live performer. He worked hard. I was devastated when he took motor neurone illness. I still play his tracks often. I also loved Glenda Collins.

Joe Meek's story is fascinating one, from being treated like a girl up to school age to his tragic suicide on February 2nd 1967. There's a great book which is still available called "The Legendary Joe Meek by John Repsch" I lost my original copy but replaced it last year.

Joe's story would make a great biopic especially if it had his music as the soundtrack.

BTW does anyone know if there's a CD of I Hear A New World. By all accounts it is fantastic, in all senses of the word.

I was intrigued to read that Freddie Star worked with Joe Meek, in this thread as I didnt know this.
I have an album that he did in the early sixties in Liverpool with the Seniors, which technically , years later I ended up vocalising for .
It`s funny working with the legendary guys, as you get very few stories out of them.
But I still should write the book on what gossip I have picked up over the years.
Screaming Lord Sutch was a lovely fella, whom I only met a couple of times, and didnt appear to ever come out of character!
