Greenberg To Exit Sony BMG
June 08, 2006
By Melinda Newman, Billboard

SOURCE: Billboard.biz

Steve Greenberg will exit Sony BMG Music Entertainment tomorrow (June 9) according to a high level source.

Greenberg was brought into the company as president of Columbia Records in January 2005 by then Sony BMG Music CEO Andrew Lack. After Lack's departure, Greenberg clashed with Sony Music Label Group chairman/CEO Don Ienner, who wanted Greenberg to leave the label. However, new Sony BMG Music Entertainment CEO Rolf Scmidt-Holz , a Greenberg advocate, fought to keep him.

Following Ienner's June 1 departure, sources said it was possible that Greenberg would stay at Columbia, get his own imprint on the BMG side or leave the company. Prior to his stint at Columbia, Greenberg founded and ran S-Curve Records, best known as the home to Joss Stone. In addition to Stone, he has broken numerous other acts including Hanson and the Baja Men. He won a Grammy in 2001 for producing the best dance recording, the Baja Men's "Who Let the Dogs Out."

Greenberg and a rep for Sony BMG declined to comment.
