It worked for Arctic Monkeys; it worked for Sandi Thom. No one should be too surprised that another act have now used the MySpace website - which spreads word of a band (and their downloadable songs) via a growing network of internet "friends" - to launch themselves to stardom. The difference is that Hope Against Hope are a scam, a spoof indie band "with no talent whatsoever" invented by Q magazine in order to prove that the Rupert Murdoch-owned site is now just another cog in the older industry phenomenon of hype.

I like the bit about hype in this article. Do you remember all the hype surrounding, "Thunderbugs"? An all girl group who were better than any other girl-group because they actually played instruments and sang. A huge flop, must have lost a fortune.

I remember Thunderthighs, but they were way back in the 1970's. Don't recall Thunderbugs. I'll try look them up.

And where would so many great bands be without even a small amount of hype? It's another word for publicity and marketing.

I can remember Thunderbugs used 4 session musicians behind a curtain
who plyaed live whilst the girls mimed outfront at their showcases !
