Wondered if anyone on here has come across Waterman's new signing via his SonyBMG imprint.

You can hear the record at www.lola-music.com

As you'll hear, it sounds like nothing else at the moment, nor like anything in a long while.

It's interesting that MTV have banned the record due to it's lyrical content, given they're happy to playlist any old gangsta shite. Perhaps they're intimidated that a woman can actually get off on getting sexed up on her own terms.

Would be interested in hearing people's opinions on this. It's already hit No.1 on the Music Week commercial pop charts, thanks largely to the Luminar jocks, whose punters are lapping it up, unsurprisingly. It's a punter record and one I think will be massive!!

Good news is she's no one hit wonder either. Follow up is the Scott Storch produced I Can't Take It, which is a monster track also.

Pretty good I reckon...
She's a bit Mariah Carey for me but far prettier and not quite as annoying in the "ten notes when one will do" arena.
Excellent production though. Very American.
How come Pete's got her when she's signed to Warners?

The Mariah thing keeps coming up time and time again. It's a nice compliment for sure.

Basically, it was brought to Pete's attention in it's Josh Harris remix form, of which it spent 5 months on Billboard Dance Chart, peaking at No.2, and as it was only signed to Warners for the U.S., he quickly snapped it up. At that point, it was being viewed as a one off dance record, until it emerged this girl has a lot more to offer and when he heard the ballad, he knew this ain't no novelty hit.

Are you being serious?

Re:Lola - No Strings (Let's Have SEX) 17 Years, 10 Months ago
You call that original? Ok let's praise her attitude if we must, but music/vocal wise there's absolutely nothing new there whatsoever. I suggest you have a wank first then listen to it again ha ha

Deadly serious.... If you can give me an example of another record that sounds like it, then I'll stand corrected. But for me, it's fresh sounding and original in so much that for once it's a girl talking about sex. That's the thing that people really can't handle.

Good to see Radio 1 are on it, both Moyles and Mills have been hammering it, which considering it's yet to be playlisted, is fantatsic!

I'd say keep an eye on this one and watch it go...

I don't like it - there's a total lack of subtlety in this record.

Too blatant and overt for my likes.

But that's Lola's point. It something we all do, something we all think about and it's the most natural thing in the world, so why the big taboo. Let's talk about it.

For too long now, sex and woman have been a man's thang. Thank god for people like Madonna, who was never afraid to say 'I like sex - so what?' Admitted, around the erotica era, she was shunned for it, but I think people just can't deal with a woman being open about having sexual feelings. Act like The Pussycat Dolls are all about giving a sexy vibe, but to please a man, it's always on the man's terms. Lola is saying 'I like sex, for me, come and please ME!'. Every girl I know that I have played this song to has now adopted it as their anthem. Most of them mothers, so go figure...

Listen, i've nothing to hide on this. I'm working on the record and i'm championing it in every way possible. Nothing to do with Waterman or Jenks, i'm doing this off my own back. It's been a LONG hard struggle to get this far, and I've supported this record since last summer when we were playing it on Pwl Radio.

Eden from Ish Media is radio plugging and is doing a wonderful job - cos he believes in the record.

Peoples reactions are so OTT when they first hear it, but after the initial shock, people with ears can hear there's a great record here.

I'm super confident there's a No.1 record about to happen, and if I wasn't sure before, judging from the phone reactions just now on Mills, I've certain it's a smash now.

It was Joe from ROTD who suggested I post here - why, i've no idea, as people on here seem to be just as negative and lifeless as the bunch of idiots who all shoot their muck over every band NME tell them it's cool to like.

Where are the Tilly Rutherfords of the music world these days. Does anyone get 'pop' anymore?

I think you'll find Mr Sleaze this is far and away the most positive board... 17 Years, 9 Months ago
If we don't like something we move on to look for something we do.
There's not enough time to slag off any music and anyway we won't put up those negative posts.
Also, as Joe knows, almost everyone in the higher echelons of the global music industry checks out this board.
Just ask Orson!

Nothing non enthusiastic about it, a simple question given that it was an overt plug. I'm sure that Mr Sleaze could have stated it was a record he was involved in from the initial post, then it would be fine. Normally you would want posters to admit an involvement as we then get the chance to offer honest advice/opinions. Mind you if it's a Pete or Jenks project I hope it's a smash anyway but I think you missed the point.

Actually Superstar I don't care whether someone is involved or not... 17 Years, 9 Months ago
If someone tips something I listen.
I know within 10 seconds whether I like it.
Having said that, I love both Pete and Jenks too.

Relax man.. 17 Years, 9 Months ago
I didn't see any negative comments - people are just giving their
views whether they like it or not. That's not a negative thing, it's only
negative when someone is trying to be destructive.

I mentioned I don't like it - but if it's your bag that's fine by me.

On the subject of PWL. I love all of that S/A/W pop and of what
Stock/Aitken did during the Love This Records period.

It's a subjective thing - if you like an overt song that's very upfront
about wanting sex in the morning and at night, and anytime for that matter
from a woman's perspective or Lola's perspective then this is (obviously) for you.

Just because it doesn't spin my propellor is just my view - If you love
it then go out and buy it. However, I just went to iTunes Music Store
and couldn't find it ???

Enjoy,

David.

This is a definite number one single in my humble. It pulls no punches, and it has the shock value that parents will hate their kids listening to it.

I'm off to buy shares in the company that makes Clear Blue Pregnacy Tests.

Re:Relax man.. 17 Years, 9 Months ago
Think it's ok myself but not my kind of thing.
As for the sex angle and it being about a woman saying please me rather than the other way around, I'm quite sure most men would go 'ok!'
