AIM's new proposals to save the music industry from losing the war against file sharing is a welcome move as far as i'm concerned and one which all Independents should rally behind and support. A collective ISP licence will ensure that artists benefit from file sharing and will create a vital new income stream and make file sharing now a bona fide promotional tool for artists and labels. Will it kill Itunes ? Probably not but it will seriously dent the online download model.
I think what will then become the norm will be
1. Download version which will be covered by the ISP licence.
2. A higher quality download version which would not be file sharing friendly because it will be too large to share.
3. Physical product will become a must have collectible and should be only sold from artist website as merchandise for fans.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this one.
