Sadly it is - because whenever the creative juices are dying, the hormones kick in and the male dominated A&R community takes over, pushing pretty young gals as the big new thing.
They never are and the decent sounds get squashed lower down the chart and, as nothing except the No1 matters anymore (and often not that), we watch the UK music scene shrink in importance (these singing bimbos rarely translate into global stars - I can only think of Madonna and Britney who have since the 80's).
Remember - the TRUE bottom lines (usually printed in red) don't emerge for 18 months - creative accounting.
So executives get the kudos of pretend success.
By the time nobody remembers these one hit wonders, the execs have claimed their bonuses and been promoted out of the firing line.

Well Jonathan it's up to us here at KOH to change all of that. You are doing your bit with Revolution/UK
www.wedontdoalbums.com www.wedontdosingles.com
which is the coolest online music store/s I've seen
in ages. (mind you I still love iTunes Music Store
but I now have a roaming eye on..........)

Personally I have always loved the producer concept artist creation .. like Hundred Ton & A Feather to the Crazy Frog or even The Archies.

Let's not go down that predicable worn-out path
that all of those others are trying.

SAKKARIN is cool - so here's to the future !!!

Doing it our own way ...

hmmm, what an odd sexist comment, I'm sure you could pick up just as many, if not more, male artists in the chart who are just as weak as ST and LA who are there due to PR.
Nelly is hardly a one hit wonder, she's got a long track record, her Whoa Nelly album did pretty well here I seem to remember - I for one am sad at her sex kitten re-invention - it is short term gain for long term pain unless she can carry on with the re-inventions a la Madonna

it is true that mainly hetero male execs are fixated by women yet most don't sell albums especially after the hits stop...... even greats like aretha and whitney and kate bush seem to drop off very fast..... they just satisfy the male manipulation ethos which prefers women as puppets.
where are the women producers?
let alone key executives

Well I'm a woman and I totally uphold JK's remarks. He isn't being sexist he's just telling it like it is. Bimbos being hyped up by men for men with disposable music which no-one will remember in six months time, let alone six years later is sadly party of this awful culture which has developed where no-one has to be smart (girls espec) just have the right image.
I have been at three parties/events this last week with 70s Djs, a tribute band and a great musician who performed old rock classic mingled with a fewer Robbie etc ones. Guests were dancing inside and outside on the pavements and everyone (particularly the younger end) knew the lyrics and sang along gustily. It was just great. Which brings me to ask where are the great hits of today which will be sung and danced to ten ot twenty years down the line? Most of it is pap and I am not surprised the music industry is crumbling there is nothing to get you excited about any more.
OK I'll get my coat - it's the one marked BOF!
