sitting in for Ross.
He played Jilted John; one of the greatest singles ever.
Possibly the only one that from the first note you know they made it because they wanted to and not for any other reason.

They gigged it as a mini pop operetta for a while , around 1978, featuring "Gordon" coming on stage, in person, and they changed the words to popular new wave songs at the time. "Gordon", hilariously sang a cover by Howard Devotos` Magazine, song called "The Light Pours out of Me", and sang, cheekily, .."the Light Shines out my a+++".
Fun days they were indeed.
It just shows how great hits can be made from few chords, I do find Lemarr jogs about a bit looking for a punchline sometimes though.

Which is exactly how it should be!

I wish more radio was more anarchic. In my view it's still the best medium for music and most of it is just flat, dull and lifeless with presenters constrained by the playlist.

Radio should be about current and NEW music, with the DJ's allowed to have an opinion and allowed to break away from the norm. Chris Evans used to be excellent when he was on Virgin (in the early days). I remember when he met 2 guys playing guitar outside the studio on his way in to work and had them playing live on the show a few minutes later. It should be FUN!

Hence the rise in unregulated Internet Radio shows - the New Pirates!

When I used to do my afternoon local radio show, the manager from the local Thai restuarant appeared with a credit card I had left there the previous evening, so we put him on , on a slot we invented for him, to invite his "wish list" of favourite people to have to dinner. It was great fun.
He was great , it turned out he used to do BBC voiceovers.
We were pretty anarchic, we even had our hair cut live on air, a bit too much for local radio as it turned out!

some of my mates who never made it out of the pub cover band stage still play "Jilted John" every Saturday night to a packed house. It's still a cracking tune and feel...young, fresh, innocent and downright great fun.
