Here's one for you JK...

I saw them at V on Sunday in Staffs. Such an energetic set and very appreciative of their current status

And I tell you what Bennet, you cannot teach stage experience. Those guys have done the job so long and you can tell they have not rehersed a stage show. They would have worked to very difficult audiences before they got heard, and were treating that audience as if they were still quite unknown.
Can you imagine the small audiences that they would have been trying to get to sing along with a song that had been not heard before?
Brilliant.
There are many bands like Orson out there, but they don`t have the "hit".

Splendid video (don't you just love You Tube?)... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
good to see them having broken thanks to my freedom from incarceration.
Let's hope they are just the first of many.

They are scenesters, which is why they broke. The record companies were looking for soft rock acts and they had a catchy tune. People can claim to have broken them but the truth is that they spent years with no success but then the scene of the industry changes and they got snapped up.

No, no Godiver, the "scene of the industry" didn't change... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
I got released from prison, spent days online and found, through Brett Meisner's old post on the Velvet Rope 6 months earlier, a tune which the entire global industry had ignored for 8 previous years.
I started a debate on the Tipsheet board which provoked interest from others and eventually lead to their signing deals.
Let's not ignore the catalyst!

The scene changes constantly. I am not posting in order to belittle any one persons contribution but to note the fact that the industry 'buzz sounds' are more of a factor in a bands success than any one person could ever be. They seem to me to have only one worthwhile tune and they would have remained unsigned, despite any protestations from you JK, if the demand for soft rock was not present. They will be a distant memory by March next year as the revolution of the industry wheel rolls on.

I may well be with you on the "one tune" Godiver... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
but the "industry scene" one I don't agree with; neither with Pierre's post about "Contacts".
I think the music industry has changed so radically that the Internet now provides fantastic opportunities to be heard... and if you're any good, you get noticed.
I know for a fact (follow the money) that the trail of success for Orson came directly from the post I put up on this board leadiing to debate, therefore getting noticed by an ex employee and good friend with respect for my ears, who then featured it on the ROTD board.
Meanwhile I'd had several calls from executives who read my post, agreed with my enthusiasm and wanted contact numbers (not hard to obtain these days with Google).
All because No Tomorrow was a hit track.
If I find a lesbian Chinese elderly grandmother singing a smash next week, she'll be signed by September.
I'm not over estimating my contribution here. It's just that very few have a reputation for finding hits and many have left the industry.
My strange recent past wrongful convictions and media demonisation do not affect the respect for my ability to spot talent which is why so many A&R types discreetly log on and check them out.
By the way, love your hair Godiver and dig that white horse.

Well, we can agree to a slight disagreement on this one i think. I still believe that in a different musical environment you would not have been able to spark the interest that you did, but what do i know!

I'm saddling up and heading off to find the lesbian chinese grandmother of whom you speak, she sounds like a goldmine.

I have been in a slightly different part of the industry for some time, but without a catalyst, as JK has said, a great number of people would not be in work if the catalysts had not put the acts together, or introduced them, or found them.
This thread is about movers and shakers, without who, the world would move BUT, someone else would have to be there to point a finger, or arrange a meeting.
This is not really an arguement, but it is about who you know, who has heard or seen you , who knows somebody that can do something about it to help.

Well if she wasn't BI she probably wouldn't be a grandmother, Kev! 17 Years, 8 Months ago
This is getting silly.

That's why I said she was BI! Saying that, she may have completely jumped the fence and now has no interest in dipping a toe on the other side.

This isn't silly, this is a serious debate!

Discuss!
