I really hope not! Most of the shops mentioned are the ones I visit on my (now sadly getting rarer) visits to the capital.

I was shocked whilst on holiday earlier this year when I finally got to visit Brighton. I'd heard that there was a whole alley full of them but there was only two left!

As I've said before, I find myself in a vicious circle. I love to buy my purchases in record shops but find that, at least locally, they don't have what I want. So you have to shop online. The more you shop online theres more chance of the local recordshops closing down....

Retail needs a radical rethink (see my Attitudes & Opinions post)... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
There is room for brilliant physical retail if only the owners would have the imagination to cater to all music lovers; incorporating Download posts, vinyl, 8 tracks, cassettes....
Posters, gig tickets, T shirts...
Badges, cards...

If they won't wake up, they will close down.

I don't think there's much of a market for 8-tracks!!!Only those who have not woken up will be stocking those in depth. The ones that have woken up run Apple Itunes etc. Music doesn't have to be bought from a "store" anymore, It's a "sound" not something that needs to go into a bag.

BUT - A store, where people meet and have facilities to access music, well if that existed, would it be called a store?

If there's a market for 8 tracks (and I bet there are collectors) cater to it... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
Likewise wax cylinders and downloads and vinyl and CD's...

A really good retailer attracts everybody because they care and they know what they are doing and they love all music and they want to help everyone...

These days, with e-bay, I'll bet you could buy 8 tracks if you wanted to.

You can - but not one of the 25 titles listed have received more than 1 bid - and nearly all are currently at 99p. (I think this "research" would point to NOT getting into the 8-track business)

...my colleague in recording chaos,(!) has an 8 track cartridge player in his car still.(fact) We see it as the ultimate burglar defence, but for how long? We have not had to lock the car before!
I think any tape format is sort after on e-bay etc, because we all hated them some much, messy, gooey stuff.ugh.
