TOPIC: Corbyn - a plot?

Corbyn - a plot? 6 Years, 2 Months ago
Clearly the media cannot be so stupid as to think the silly Czech fiasco would put off any Corbyn fans (even if true) and must be aware those undecided will be so offended by the obvious attack they might decide to vote for him just through irritation at the tabloids, so is it a cunning plot to elect him?

How will trains run on time (when his Union friends start getting control?)
Southern Rail?

Cheap? By the time we have employed stand-by deputy third-man ticket collectors?

NOTHING is "cheap" when the Loonies are involved ! -
we are STILL paying the interest on the debt they left behind last time

I rather like Abbott too; I simply don't go along with the tabloid crusade despite remembering Wilson's Labour and paying 98p tax from every pound I earned. Financially I don't agree with Socialism but it and times have changed.

Never paid 98% tax - but currently paying 60%.

And I'd probably vote for even a Scarecrow (who would have to be outstanding in his field!) to pay less.

For most - not all - take home pay/net income is the significant factor, and vote winner.

Taxation levels and bands should be more equitable - favouring those on the 7.10am train/bus...

Then Wilson devalued the £ making everyone in the Country worse-off overnight !

The (Loony) Labour government of Harold Wilson devalued sterling from £1 = $2.80 to £1 = $2.40 on 18 November 1967 ...

In 1967, Britain suffered a balance of payments crisis, spending (importing) more than it was earning (exporting). That made it crucial to keep the pound strong. The hitch was that supporting the pound was fast becoming unaffordable. The Bank of England burned through £200m in gold and foreign currency reserves in just one day alone.

And so in November, sterling was devalued by 14.3% against the dollar.

It was a personal defeat for Prime Minister Harold Wilson. But on 19 November, he went on radio and television to reassure consumers that devaluation “does not mean, of course, that the pound here in Britain, in your pocket or purse, or in your bank, has been devalued”. It didn’t take an economist, however, to tell you that that was nonsense.

“That broadcast will long be remembered for that sentence”, crowed Conservative MP and future prime minister Ted Heath in Parliament. “It will be remembered as the most dishonest statement ever made.”

Wilson had fibbed. The ‘pound in your pocket’ is, of course, the same pound that is used to import food and other things from abroad. Prices were going to have to rise.

You are right about some things, JK ... memories do fade ... but the Loonies remain Loony !

So good at cut and pasting ITK - but still no idea what level of National Debt the last Labour government left?

Although you frequently allude to this sum that you are incapable of ascertaining or calculating - even though it's a matter of public record.

Can you not find a 'cut and paste' to tell you - instead of making unqualified/unverified statements akin to playing tennis with no balls...
