People will only get worried when the major football countries say they're not going

Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Spain, France etc.

And their governments would have to place massive pressure on them to pull out¡

Next - cancel the Champions League¿!

About 10 days - when the chemical weapons inspectors report - and there will be no hiding place !

Mass pull-outs WILL follow (its the only way to "damage" and "punish" Russia after all the money they have spent - and it costs us NOTHING) !

(It saves the embarrassment too !)

Brazil/Argentina/Mexico/France/Spain/Netherlands/Portugal etc. won't pull out.

The event will happen somewhere - but probably in Russia.

Politicians go on holiday (like everyone) in the Summer - and the focus will revert back to the game.

And the financial rewards...

and growing .... #CupOfShame

A campaign encouraging the boycott of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia is gaining steam. Avaaz, a US-based 'cyber-activist' civic organization is behind it. However, as Sputnik has discovered, the group has not-so-open links to financial speculator George Soros and his Open Society Foundations.

Last week, using the hashtag #CupOfShame, Avaaz launched a campaign aimed at governments and players around the world to boycott the World Cup in Russia, unless it immediately halts its anti-terrorism campaign in Syria.

Accusing the Syrian president of the "extermination of his own people," the group's petition claims that Russian support is the "one reason why Assad's been able to continue with this destruction." Arguing that the World Cup may be the only thing Moscow cares about more than Syria, Avaaz urges users to join its pressure campaign. As of this writing, close to 790,000 people have already signed.

Do those 790,000 people really support ISIS? Seems odd to me.

I don't think any of them support Isis ... just humanity.

Yes similar to the Libya situation. Support the rebels! Withdraw support from the ruling party! Save lives (well, some lives - of course, thousands of others will die, just on the other side). It's a logic I don't quite understand.

Democracy - in Britain - took 1000 years to evolve ... the Libyans will get there eventually.

In Syria .. no one has ANY solutions at all ... and the death toll just keeps rising (with absolutely no end in sight).

Assad would have been removed - as the people want - years ago were he not being "propped up" by the Russians (who drop barrel bombs and chemical weapons on Syrian women and children).

They have got away with that (so far) ... now they are using chemical weapons against us - on our own soil !

Re: No plug will be pulled... 6 Years, 1 Month ago
Although a few individual countries have refused to play in the World Cup, there has never been a boycott - and it's very unlikely in 2018.

Whilst the Salisbury saga is unfortunate, it is simply not grabbing the attention of the world, as it is here. People and countries are too involved in their own problems.

England considered withdrawing from the 1982 World Cup in Spain because they were concerned about having to play Argentina - foes from the Falkland War.

But Michael Heseltine (the relevant minister) said the government had no power to withdraw the team - and both Argentina and England were knocked out early, without playing each other.

The uncertain and unproven culpability of Russia - in terms of Salisbury is significant. Accusations from all sides will not influence most.

Many feel that sport should transcend disputes, wars and disagreements - and that sentiment will win out...

Boris is ramping up the pressure !

LIVE: Boris Johnson suggests Vladimir Putin will use Russia World Cup 'like Hitler did'
news.sky.com/story/live-boris-johnson-fa...-and-brexit-11298986

UK safety officer for World Cup 'expelled from Russia'

Johnson reveals that the officer who was going to be responsible for UK fan safety has been expelled as part of Russia's retaliation over diplomats.

"You can't imagine anything more counter-productive to the UK's ability to help fans in Russia, so there is an issue - there is a discussion."

Number of "fans" applying for Visas DROPS by 75% !

Re: Boycott unlikely 6 Years, 1 Month ago
When Boris Johnson spoke to the Foreign Affairs committee today, there was no talk of boycotting the World Cup.

Safety issues were the main topic - together with an acceptance that Russia will use the event for propaganda purposes.

Of course they will - doesn't every country that hosts a huge event (Olympics/World Cup) milk it for all its worth!?

Half the world's population (3 billion +) will watch the games in every country on earth.

But this intense scrutiny is the reason why stringent safety measures will be in place - and Boris, and the government, know this only too well.

And they won't want to be the first to decide to stay at home: Other countries are looking on, with low interest levels.

Until KO....
