Ironic isn't it? "Conservative" parties around the world have become the enemy of manufacturing (but they aren't really conservative any more.."Venture Capitalists" and "free marketeers", NeoLiberalism and all that.)
What does Britain sell? I wrack my brains. So many wonderful products once manufactured in the UK are now
Made in China or owned by other countries.
Is Britain now a "service nation"?. Australia almost is. It only has it's natural resources but once gas etc is replaced by "renewable energy" it's rapidly becoming a holiday destination for the burgeoning
Chinese Middle Class..
now a staggering number of 400 Million which is more than the populations of most countries.
But will it all end in tears?
I see
Barneys in New York (
was it named after our poster?) has gone bust after neatly 100 years which is really something.
A store I loved to visit ( I
lurve department stores) selling high end goods.
It's been some years since I was last in
NYC and even then I noticed the crowds..humongous on the streets..seemed to have abandoned stores like
Bloomingdales.
SIGN OF THE TIMES ### Apparently Barneys has become a
Shoplifter's Paradise in it's dying months as they surge through the store ripping of pairs of
Louboutins & the occasional
Fendi handbag safe in the knowledge all the security staff have left to find other jobs and the sales assistants don;t bother stopping them sinnce one got bitten on the hand and another slapped in the face.
And I noticed so many empty stores up for rent on the once thriving upper East Side..apparently it's a whole lot worse now with entire blocks up for rent.
Give
Donald Trump another 4 years and he'll demolish the joint.
Had to happen one day..the Collapse of Capitalism.(still some life in it yet but....)
