Watching Ch4 Wild Goumets, someone hates the idea of eating eels.
I can't understand that. Eeel is one of my favourite fish. Smoked eel with horseradish is the best Dutch food around!

But while I'm writing about delicious eels, I'm eating...

Delicious Bratwurst with mushrooms, wild rice, beetroot salad with loads of vinegar and Tsingtsao Beer.

And pudding? More of that delicious M&S strawberry and rhubarb compote with fresh cream.
Not good for the heart or figure but A1 for the soul.

I have never eaten eel to my knowledge.Is it bony? I allways get irritated by that, and actually had to get taught how to de-bone a fish far too late in life.

One of the great Autumn foods, is wild rice, which technically is a grass and not a rice apparently.
Has anyone else tried the red Camargue rice from Merchant Gourmet?
A very interesting rissoto substitute.

There beluga lentils are fantastic as well.

Ah no, eel (when filletted - easy) is not bony and the bones are completely removed in smoked eel.

You must buy some - get a packet of smoked eel and some horseradish sauce, eat with chunks of crusty bread and butter washed down with iced cider. You'll love it.

Well 43 today,so let the old hair down.Quick meal of Smoked Salmon,Ikra(Caviar) and Blue Amorsky Fish.
I'm no great fish fan,but my wife does a great job of preparing these things.
We drunk very nice Armenian Cognac,and a Georgian wine.All at a fraction of the British price
Funny thing about the CCCP,even the poorest people got to eat the best fish:P
Just wish I could get hold of that M&S compote.You always want what you can't get unfortunately...like Bisto Gravy.

Happy birthday SE.

I'm not much of a drinker but I'm toasting your youth (nearly 20 years younger than me) with a white wine spritzer, about to enjoy a home cooked dinner with a friend (unless he's late which he usually is) of roast chicken, roast potatoes, courgettes in butter followed by - you guessed it - the M&S compote with fresh cream, ice cream and fresh raspberries.

I don`t think I could ever miss Bisto I`m afraid, never liked it right from being a kid.

My quickest gravy, is fry one onion, add brown sugar and a dash of any vinegar, a splash of seasoning or soya sauce, make into a jam, add hot water bring to the boil and thicken with cornflour.

I had a dreadful delivered curry tonight, I`m allways very cautious with the use of asofeteda powder in dishes and both main meals tasted of it too strongly, not only that but a burnt flavour too.

The fish sounds very interesting SE, as does the eel JK.
The smokery up the road did have some last time I checked, I was also rather tempted by the hand-made smokery he had on display which is only rabbit hutch sized and would be handy in the garden, neighbours permitting.

And just to prove I'm getting really, really old...

The chicken joint I bought at M&S today looked rather tasty, as did the Gammon joint, so I bought both and they gave me a lovely FREE wooden carving board which I fully intend to use to carve our bird tonight.

Eels are quite nice.

Remembering the first time I had jellied eels I was slightly disappointed as they weren't a very unusual or foreign flavour at all. A bit like baked badger

Apparently catching with a line eels is not recommended, they swallow the hook rather than catch their lip. You wind up with an irretrievable hook and a writhing slithering slimy creature that's not particularly happy about recent events.

Well given my prediciment I'd even eat a horse(curry) now:woohoo:
Only kidding,but I do remember those delivered currys were never up to the standard of that extra special little place stuck in the middle of some 'god forsaken' area we all hated going to,but loved the food so much.
I lived in Solihull/Birmingham,and as such was lucky to get into the 'balti' thing 30 years ago,before it got commercialised.Also had a spell in Bradford,what wonderful currys existed there 20 years before:P
Would be nice to see a seperate food section on this site,the main forum is growing strongly,and perhaps some division of content may be worth considering for the future.Just an idea of course.

Bradford and Dudley are still both excellent for curries, I do have to say my favourite ever was in Glasgow though.
I went with a band member at the time, and we apparently were unapproachable due to garlic fumes for the final part of the tour!

There is something inheritantly "bad for you" sadly, about the majority of take away curries and for some strange reason, it just has to be had!
I recently, incidently, found a review of one I reviewed on their own menu, on the web.

Am I the only one apart from yourself that wonders about this common roadkill creatures edibilty?
Someone must have tried one at some point.I would assume it would be similar to goat, which was interesting but I would not run to seek it out again.

I found that by dividing up the board into two - one essentially music; the other everything else - it covered most topics.

It's fascinating - at weekends we have far more Your Views visits and posts... on weekdays, it's much more Tipsheet!

Dang! I`m right out of Armangnac!

The next reasonably intact one I find, I actually promise to undertake this recipe,and film it.
It has some very subtle and ordinary ingredients in the dish but does look like one would have rather a lot of badger left over, presumably for shaving brushes. (where would we be without them eh?)

One of my best mates believes very strongly in eating road kill, and when his wife ran into a pheasant, he , without a thought, bumped it into the boot of the car.

When they opened the trunk on returning home, it flew off!
Absolutely true that as well, not an urban myth.(Though it probably will become one after writing this)
