He was very hyper, funny and caring guy. I lost track of how often I have laughed through Sweatin It To The Oldies. People rented the tapes not for the workouts but for how unintentionally funny they were. I always admired Richard Simmons, because he was a self made man and he could laugh at himself and even let Howard Stern (When he was worth listening) to take the piss out of him to some degree.

David Letterman with Richard Simmons on the Letterman Show was a fantastic bit of TV.

Simmons, was a recluse for years avoided the public eye for and never published photos of himself despite being active on the Socials. Yet, the papers publish a picture of him under a blanket being wheeled out.
