Most of them must be in our conservatory, we've had about half a dozen massive bees in there every day for the past couple of weeks. Some of them are absolutely bloody huge and make the noise of a small plane but they truly are fantastic creatures....
I had two wasp nests in the loft, totally revolting structures.
I have to say about honey, I find it quite mythical that it is good for the voice, salt water is better.
I seem to recall the native bee problem is akin to the lack of red squirell problem, they have been outnumbered by a stronger species or two.
Isn't the problem bee-mites - they've been doing well with recent warm winters. Tobacco smoke gets rid of them.
Honey's main ingredients are - Fructose: 38%, Glucose: 31%, Water: 17%. So that sugar and bit of water. Looks like the diabetics are out of luck.
My brother does it as a hobby but he does sell off a surplus, recently the demand is for honey with bits in it - got some fancy title so health food shops can sell it at a premium - he likes this this as it saves him from having to filter it. (The filter he uses is sand, imagine the fun of honey soaked sand)
