This staggeringly reassuring news proves that the lockdown and social distancing has prevented the spread of COVID-19. Fingers crossed that all the frantic research into vaccines will be successful and allow us all to be inoculated, hopefully within months. Thankfully, we shall never know that if the other 399 in every 400 of us had been infected, how many would have died.
Some facts:
* The current number of deaths in the U.K. stands at 35,431.
* The death rate for this time of year is more than double what it should normally be, in spite of the lockdown
* Sweden's lack of a lockdown has resulted in 16 times as many deaths as its neighbour Norway, even though its population is only double.
Conclusion:
* Lockdown works
* Social distancing works
* Restrictive measures will stay in place until a vaccine is found and made widely available
* All of the above is true in spite of whatever the media says
* Keep a sceptical frame of mind, look at raw facts, and don't be swayed by a hyperbolic media.
