TOPIC: My latest theory on Covid19

My latest theory on Covid19 2 Months, 1 Week ago
As the vast majority think my opinion - that this virus is trivial for 99% of those that catch it; only dangerous to 1% and lethal to a small amount of that 1% - is rubbish based on the incorrect feeling that media exaggerates everything in order to make a story bigger and better - I suggest you ignore my latest theory.

After all, I know nothing. I am no expert; no scientist and no doctor.

But I'm beginning to suspect it is even MORE trivial than I first thought. I think it is a parasite virus. The nasty part of it is that it attacks the weak spots in people, then goes away. Leaving the "underlying health conditions" to take over.

So we get over Covid19 (in my case, in about 4-5 days in early March I reckon ).

I'm lucky in that I don't have many "weak spots" (due to not smoking, doing drugs or drinking much; being relatively fit though ageing; not overweight). But I think my slightly dodgy right hip was aggravated. Always weak, it started to ache and has done so, quite painfully, ever since I recovered from Covid19 (if, indeed, I did get it).

My brother nearly died with double pneumonia in January. We both think he had Covid19. Like me, his antibody test was negative (my theory is - you get over it; antibodies die off too). But now he has health problems that I think the Covid aggravated.

Most people, being generally healthy, get few problems. But actress Emma Sands, in today's Times, describes the "long tail" that many think they may have.

I don't think there's a "long tail". Just as there won't be a "second wave". The first wave will go on, like flu. Covid19 is here to stay. Trying to stop or slow the spread won't work anywhere. In most cases it has no or mild symptoms and creates few problems. But in quite a lot, other symptoms increase; nothing to do with Covid19 but there all along, simply made worse by this nasty, though trivial, virus.

Treating the secondary problems is the key. Sadly those who died (mainly of old age or respiratory weakness) simply had the date of their deaths brought forward by this unpleasant new virus. It will continue. And the way to stop it killing many people is NOT to misunderstand it.

But I know nothing.

"this virus is trivial for 99% of those that catch it;"

the figures given do not bear that out as it's more like 25% who catch it die from it. 21M plus patients and 776K deaths and about half recovered with medical experts pondering that there may be long term health problems.

But of course we have no idea if the figures are real.

Nonsense claim Green Man..China's economic success is based on the West buying it's products..hardly going to shoot themselves in the foot. More Trump idiocy.

It's what it is (to quote Trump) an out of control virus with no known cure..at present. Maybe it will go on forever and wipe us all out, or maybe not.

Or a vaccine may be developed soon..and then have to deal with a mutating Covid virus like the Flu every year.

Why anyone chooses to die on this hill when like me they know little is the real mystery.

I think the real virus is Donald Trump who has politicized a virus he's too thick to know anything about and told so many lies about it and everything else that a certain amount of people have simply adopted his alternative reality where something is whatever he thinks it is at the moment. (not a bad idea really )

So as of today : I now demand it be called the COVFEFE VIRUS !!

Yours certainly aren't Hedda.

25% of people who catch it die from it? That is a fantastical and terrifying figure.

No wonder you have such hysterical views about this virus.

Let me calm you...

25% of 21 million is 5 million 250 thousand not 776 thousand, which is 3.61% of 25 million.

You won't find a mortality rate as high as 3.61% anywhere I have seen...

I think millions have caught it, like me, who have not been counted Hedda but even amongst those it's a tiny percentage who die. This is Germany today.

Hedda been on the drug's again.

Latvia
32 Deaths
1,315 Confirmed Cases
1,078 Recovered

Seems rest is the best cure for cold and flu. I never buy over the counter medicine and get the flu jab when travelling abroad.

can't be bothered working out the figures so I'll talk your word for it except..you have the hide to say my views are hysterical ? Well FUCK YOU (I mean that in a caring and sharing way) ..my views are no more hysterical than the combined medical experts of the world who, while may not be perfect I tend to take notice of.

They may be right or maybe wrong..but probably are correct.

If anyone is hysterical it's JK (I mean that nicely) who has pontificated in the most endlessly boring and dull way (which is unusual for JK) about a bloody virus he wouldn't have a fucking clue about..just endless endless theories and quite incredibly dull daily briefing s about sod all !!

An even worse fools like you come in and accuse me of being hysterical? Why..give an example of my hysteria or STFU.

totally and utterly bored with every man and his dog having a theory on Covid..not one who can supply and back it up with evidence.

No longer interested

boooooring

I agree with you Hedda; boring. Except - the fact that so many, including "experts" and "politicians" have been taken in (as by the False Allegations Industry) means the repercussions are extraordinary and will be for decades to come; all based on incorrect assumptions.

I've ignored it and have relaxed on holiday in the sun. You seem to have done the same except in gloriously empty Australia.

But sadly, thanks to media, there's lot worse to come. Hopefully for other people and you and I (and WYOT) will continue to find it boring (for us).

But if we care for the gullibles and the sheeples, we need to keep pointing out that the Emperor is naked.

absolute meaningless rubbish as this excellent site ourworlddata explains you simply cannot pluck a figure out of the air like 1% or 3/61% because you haven't a clue how statistics work.

In fact it's dangerous.

And I added.."But of course we have no idea if the figures are real." which I don;t and even less..do you lot.

We have no idea if the number of cases listed are real..there maybe a million more undiagnosed (duhhhh..see D. Trump and his claim if you test less not as many will have Covid).

We have no idea if one or 5 million died in China..no idea at all.

We have no idea if all the deaths claimed are from Covid or if among the 36 MILLION PLUS people who died this year (and every year)how many died from Covid and it's covered up (see above : "But of course we have no idea if the figures are real")

The whole discussion is an intellectual wank among people who haven't got a frigging clue (includes me) and is in itself, a by-product of the pandemic...a dull armchair expert's circle jerk.

If you casually give hugely misleading (millions out) on a public forum yes a fool like me will feel free to challenge even you Hedda!

If JK has had enough of my input on here on this subject he can tell be to STFU and that would be fine; it is his site, his perogative. I would understand why, as well.

Yes the subject and very word Covid is as boring as it is important. The ramifications of ignorance about this virus is a disaster unfolding though...

I was trying to be playfully provocative (but as you say in a friendly spirit) with my choice of the word "hysterical"; as from your posts in general, this is an approach you appear to be highly relaxed about using yourself...

This is terrific Sausage; straight to the jugular clear, and should help wake people up.

Please keep this stuff coming.

On my own - outside of JK on here - I am in danger of looking like an acolyte research student; or to more conspiratorial minds some kind of plant.

I am neither.

I disagree or diverge on a lot of subjects on here with the host. We happen to think the same on this.

This is the most important crisis we all face; even if we are all bored to friggin tears by it....

I think it's wrong to associate tgis with false allegations which we all support JK on.

The media responds to the experts and politicians and possibly ramp up the anxiety but there is no correlation between a health catastrophe and a wilful industry of bent coppers aiding false accusers.

The real problem..everyone is bored to tears with a drama they cannot control and the uncertainty that it will be eventually controlled as long with financial devastation as in my young real a gives who took $20k out of their superannuation to pay rent etc which puts them b ascj about 8 years in savings. Multiply it 100 million times like the successful restaurant owned in It a sly by a pal who h was just shut down.

alas to your and L'l Sausage's glee, Alan Jones probably has an audience of 50,000 in a country of 25 million plus and really is a busted flush now. He supposedly retired early this year at 79 but has now popped up on Sky. Which is Rupert Murdoch's huge loss making cable network.

Of course he's actually broadcasting from a home studio in his luscious "hobby farm" in the beautiful Southern Highlands about 2 hours from Sydney but he also has the most magnificent apartment over-looking the Opera House and Harbour.

Alan once famously said of hedda "he should never be allowed to work in Sydney again" after which once word got around I was flooded with jobs.
So I'm forever grateful to him.

Actually he is a tireless unsung charity worker and really does help the down and outs on what he calls' "Struggle Street" (plebs on drugs and welfare etc)

Still he and I are forgiving and thus he allowed me to accompany a 17 year old journalist student to his penthouse for an interview which went famously until said student asked Alan "are you gay"? at which point we were hurriedly ushered out by his butler even though I had over complemented him on his choice of Versace cushions (which looked so out of place).

And yet an earlier time he even asked me to his then factory / loft hone to meet his close pal (then) Sir Jeffrey Archer and the GM of The Ritz Hotel in London (of most interest to me) and he scowled at me as I complimented him on:
1. the fab collection of antique teddy bears on his bed and
2. the wonderful collection of portraits of very manly and handsome Football Stars lining the staircase.(he was a coach)

I digress: I disagree with 99% of what Alan says and only support 1% (similar to a Covid emergency) of his ideas but -I have gone into to defend him fiercely against my left wing journo pals who attack endlessly and bizarrely demand that he "come out" and admit he is gay when it's no-one's bloody business.(and I don't know)

But even worse - they attack him over a FALSE ALLEGATION from London in 1988 (innocent) and not one has ever bothered to chase up the sub story which led to a BIG CHANGE in policing in The Met. Just as I would steam in to defend JK (even though he's obviously a complete whacko)

Why does it have to be teams of "those of us who think its a trivial virus" and "those of us who think we are all doomed"?

None of us actually know anything. All we can do is wait and see. (while inwardly seething. )

I am somewhere in the middle. Trivial or catastrophic, it makes no difference. It is still a ridiculous farce and the "safety measures" make no sense at all either way.

my last bout of hysteria on Covid.

as I have said above to WYOT & Sausage (sounds like a JK made-up band)..although I rarely agree with Alan Jones but still admire him as he does fantastic unsung work helping all manner of people and in a very hands on way by raising, donating a small fortune and battering politicians into submission (rather than just sit on Charity boards) to great success and his often right wing views bely the fact he can actually be quite left wing by attacking rapacious property developers etc trying to ravage cities....I detect a flaw in his reasoning in the above video.

Australia has escaped the worst of the Covid virus with debilitating lock downs with both a right wing NSW premier & left wing Victorian premiere (both attacked by Alan above),,,can it not be claimed that having acted swiftly and correctly (with some flaws)...does that not mean that despite Alan's outburst..the infinitesimal deaths in Oz could well be down to both premier's actions and therefore they are right and he is wrong?

Think about it...

# the lockdown has devastated Bondi Beach so I await Summer to see if the tourists come back. Naturally the few survivors include McDonalds etc who you couldn't kill off with a big stick

I get where you are coming from Honey, but disagree that "none of us know anything" and we should just see how it pans out.

The low mortality rate (recently revised down in UK) as opposed to infections is known, those particularly vulnerable are known, the impact of lockdown is beginning to be felt and reasonably predictable as disastrous short and long term.

I think it is therefore reasonable to have an opinion about whether our response to Covid has been merited or not; particularly given the impact on generations to come.

Totally agree with you on safety measures.

Any way I look at it masks rules utterly baffle me.

Sorry Hedda - by the time Covid arrived in the Southern Hemisphere, those in charge realised it was a trivial virus for the vast majority but lethal for a few; so they clamped down on the spread and made sure the vulnerable were protected from catching it and treated properly and fast before it caught hold. Simples.

Here is what I think Hedda:

We of course can't test non events (no lockdown) so can't determine whether the lockdown saved lives and how many.

Commom sense yes would tell us some were saved by a lockdown.

What is missing from your analysis is factoring in the cost of lockdown. I find that this always seems to be missing from the "other camp".

We know that many lives have been and will be lost in UK - and I am sure Aus- by lack of access to treatments, fear about accessing treatment and the lives that will be lost due to the social costs of global recession.

I don't believe that the data about the mortality rate comes any way near justifying how this has been portrayed in the media for a now interminable 6 months...I think JK is spot on about their influence here.

BTW Hedda I also have decided this is my last hysterical post about Covid. Please note use this time of emoticon to avoid offence!
