Opening schools & infections... 3 Years ago
Opening schools up again has made no difference to the Covid infection rate.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9430509...0-8-1-SAGE-says.html

This won't have anything to do with vaccines as children haven't been vaccinated. We are only talking about infections and vaccines don't prevent infection; they reduce severity of symptoms.

What other restrictions have served no purpose at a terrible cost?

Why aren't serious questions being asked?

How can gullibles keep just ignoring all the mounting evidence?

In my teeny tiny little area, both "cases" and deaths have risen a bit since the schools opened, but are coming down now.

I think we might have a higher than average number of grandparents living with the schoolchildren, and the grandparents tend to be younger than most places, so when more are vaccinated it should sort itself out.

Or it could be that the rabid little gang of community litter pickers have got more time for dogging and swinging now the children are back at school.

Experts, researchers and studies would disagree.

What great news eh Barney that the vaccine is so efficacious? I assume you support the immediate lifting of all restrictions, as I do?

Did you form that view when you thought that vaccines didn't prevent infection - or when you learned the truth?

Oh for God's sake Barney go away. Vaccines have not been proven to stop others catching it from anyone; they simply lessen the severity of symptoms and make it less likely you get it but nobody knows for certain how it is passed on; airborne, probably, like colds and flu, and quite possibly by asymptomatics - as with colds and flu.

It's illogical JK to ignore the growing evidence to the contrary - things are moving fast.

Barney, it prevents some infections, not all infections.

Vaccines work by creating herd immunity, so the virus doesn't have enough hosts to get a grip. It doesn't make the individual immune.

No vaccine works 100%. What the two links confirm is that (separate and independent; by reputable organisations) studies have shown up to 90% protection, for the vaccines mentioned. And the medical world has accepted the good news.

I wish I'd never put a thread up about infections. They are just a trifling, irrelevant distraction.

Here's what is not: 10 people died today in the UK and their deaths were possibly linked "with" Covid on the basis that they tested positive. If we assume a hitherto unheard of zero false positives this is 1 in every 6.3 million people. Yet we remain largely in lockdown.

Following the science my arse; as Jim Royle would say.

So what exactly is the disagreement? I am lost now.
