Best Dr Who ?? 16 Years, 9 Months ago
David Tennant was voted the best Doctor of all time in a Dr Who poll on UKTV Gold. I can only assume that it's because he's the current one, and so has a kind of 'home' advantage. For me it has always been Jon Pertwee, with Patrick Troughton second and Tom Baker third. I also very much liked Paul McGann.

I do like David Tennant. It's interesting that when he first got the role I thought he'd be awful, although now I think he's quite good. On the other hand, when Chis Eccleston got the role I was certain he'd be wonderful but found him to be quite unsuited. Thanfully he also realised that it wasn't for him and so he quit.

I still think the worst thing to happen to Dr Who is RTD. Sorry JK, I know you disagree. The best stories (e.g. Blink) are always the ones not written by him. His always include direct nicks from other stuff. For example the female hand picking up the ring to the sound of weird laughter at the end of the final episode was a carbon copy of the scene at the end of Flash Gordon. That's not to mention the nicks from 'pigs from space' and 'restaurant at the end of the universe', etc.

But anyway ... congrats to David Tennant. You'll never be a Pertwee, but you're better than McCoy.

For me it's Jon Pertwee but he was my original Dr.

The BBC have done an excellent job or relaunching Dr Who. Overall it's been a brilliant children's programme that adults watch - not an easy thing to do.

I did think the last 3 with the Master was too wordy and had lost it somewhat. Aside form that all done superbly.

Just about sums up my thoughts on the Doctor saga.I like David Tennant, but not as the best Doctor.Eccleston, well he's too well known an actor to make it work. You should see the Doctor actor as exactly that, the Doctor, same problems with Paul McGann.
Agree with zooloo about the last 3 episodes, they lost the plot, and Jacobi should have stayed the Master, what an actor, regardless of age.
Nice thread, let's hope it grows with more feedback.

As a lifelong Doctor Who fan, I have endless thoughts and opinions on this show. "My Doctor" was Peter Davison and I still enjoy his adventures as indeed I enjoy virtually all the Doctors for various reasons until the RTD era which I have to admit I have barely enjoyed at all. I have to agree with Al above about RTD but I'll leave it since my opinions on that are best kept to myself and this thread isn't about RTD!

The best Doctor? I would have to say Tom Baker because he had genuine eccentricity and charm, 2 qualities David Tennant does not have. For me, Tennant is the worst Doctor of all... I have never been convinced by him for one second I'm afraid and I look forward to the day he announces he is moving on.

I did love Davidsons use of a cricket ball to wipe out an evil thingammyjig.
A classic scene.

I was born in 74 so Pertwee was just still the Doctor (Death to the Daleks was on the week I was launched into the world!).
The era I remember most is Davison's. So amazingly 80s.
Can't join in the Tennant arguments though - I think he has done so much to keep the show in the eye as well as producing the goods each week. The Human episodes were incredibly well done. It will be a shame when he does go.
