Firearms... 2 Years, 8 Months ago

Such an awful incident in Plymouth; one victim was a 3 year old girl along with her Dad.
The killer was a frustrated virgin.

Boris now asking that his licence be investigated? Perhaps we should screen for sexual contentment levels Boris?
For goodness sake just ban the bloody things before we end up as screwed up on the issue as the US.

Just awful. Poor people to have to run across this individual. Wonder why on earth he needed a shotgun licence. Presumably to try to feel less of a loser wouldn't be accepted as a good reason.
Davison owned a shotgun and held a shotgun licence, both of which were taken from him in December 2020 after he was accused of assault.

A shotgun certificate will not be given or renewed if the chief officer of police has a reason that you should not be allowed to have a shotgun under the Firearms Act. Or if they do not think you have a good reason to have, buy or acquire a shotgun.

Shotguns don't seem to be mentioned in Percy's link, perhaps because there are legitimate reasons to own them (e.g. farmers).

I know there may be a tiny % of legit reasons to own one, but I struggle to see why an unemployed virgin would require one. The problem is that the legislation works on the basis of trying to define reasons to exclude anyone from owning one (as if it is an inalienable human right) rather than asking the real question: why should anyone be permitted to keep one in the first place? You need types of knives for practical reasons other than settling a county lines drug debt - a shotgun has no use at all, other than to kill.

I agree Percy. Rural crime is thriving in certain parts of the UK, police are nowhere to been and farmers can't patrol their land all the time.
Crime on farmers and in rural areas are normally done by the travelling communities. Who don't care about the police; because the police will never enter a traveller site unless they need to arrest someone for rape or murder (because the police will be in groups).
If your John Deere is stolen and taken to a site the police will say to you "Tell the insurance company." Insurance companies don't pay out all the time to farmers now who have had machinery stolen.
At least in Texas you can kill an intruder in your home and you don't chase the intruder down the street then open fire. No jury will in Texas will send a homeowner to prison for protecting his or her home and themselves.
Castle doctrine works wonder in America especially in Texas. (How I miss going there - maybe next year)[/quote]
How? You are not vaccinated. Are you going by air balloon?

as an Indian mystic once said (or words to this effect):
the sole reason for a gun is that it must be fired and the sole reason is that it must kill so inevitably..every gun will be fired one day !
profound or what !
I've never seen a gun in the USA but it now terrifies me there are so many.
## as a kid in the army Cadets I was given a 303 rifle (1931)..Christ it was heavy (no ammunition)and once had to dive to the ground with this frigging great weapon..nearly broke my arm.
I wondered "WTF am I doing in this ridiculous uniform that doesn't fit and a bloody great rifle" but shortly after I was frog marched out of the Cadets because my hair was too long.
