and Priti and the French - stop blaming others (like "people smugglers") - those to blame are US. Great Britain. If millions want to come here we should facilitate safe arrivals before housing them, looking after them and deciding whether or not they should stay. As an Open Borders believer I think most should be not only allowed but welcomed but whatever you feel, we should NOT be consigning people to death or blaming other countries. Bring them in safely.

Ah, but you see if they helped them to travel over safely, they would be more likely to bring their mothers, grandmothers and children over, instead of mostly young strong men to do cheap almost-slave labour, wouldn't they?

So they keep helping to traffic them.
Pigs!

And where are the voices in Parliament urging opening our borders to those seeking to come here? Labour? No; they agree "clamp down on people smugglers". LibDems? Useless. It's astonishing.Refugees from Syria and other points (Afghanistan?) come to Europe - Germany welcomes them. France is generous and welcoming to those from Africa fleeing to Europe. So is Italy. A few idiots migrate to Calais, thinking the UK will be kind and helpful, like it was to Jews and Gays and Gypsies 80 years ago. OH NO! This country is a very different place these days.

Can anyone explain to me - if the Government charged those would-be immigrants the rumoured £3000 currently charged by "people smugglers", wouldn't that pay for some of the costs of safe transport, officials and even original housing?

When we chose to leave the EU we declared that we would control our borders. Not the French or the Dutch. If people want to come here (God knows why), we must enable them to do so; stringently examine their reasons and treat them in a decent, humane way.

I have no idea why people want to come to the UK apart from the benefits 5 star hotels, weekly allowance and free dental care without waiting ages.

I have paid in the system like millions of other people but don't get anything in return. I didn't get a single penny during lockdowns despite filling in the forms numerous times.

What you won't see our Gov or media highlight is the reason migrants come to us in such numbers is the desire to work and provide for their families:

www-thenationalnews-com.cdn.ampproject.o...or-migrant-crisis%2F

They come to work in our thriving black economy. It is much easier to do so here than in mainland Europe because the black economy is largely unregulated and we don't have id cards.

Much easier, of course, to talk of scroungers and 5 star hotels; or for the Gov to blame the French and not regulate the black economy.

They are the same as you or I; making logical choices about survival for themselves and the people they love.

And the answer is clear (and I suspect will emerge today after the EU meeting). Now the UK has withdrawn from the EU, the "borders" in France will be returned to the UK ("take back control" and those wishing to come to the UK will be put on ferries, safe and sound, no risk to women and children, to be dealt with when they arrive in our beautiful, welcoming island.

All that link is showing more finger pointing. France never take reasonability and surrender very quickly.

Yes we will need to grow up and take responsibity for our actions. However we seem to be a stuck in infancy with our current rulers...
