dinner of free fish (from Brun in Cannes port); langoustines, giant prawns, my favourite Crevettes Grises (tiny grey shrimps) and the best Smoked Salmon in the world (Scottish naturally but sliced so thin you can see through the slices). Radishes. Home made Aoili.

I'd be happy to cook for any of you - very enthusiastic and reasonably accomplished amateur cock (sorry) cook...

Gemma/Barney - even you darling; though you are very sour, so would temper you with some sweetness...

I deleted Barney's latest; really can't be bothered with his or her rubbish.

The beauty of this is that it required no cooking - all done or raw.

Him. Without a doubt.

I do worry about him though.

It amused me - the shop is part of the restaurant across the road - many times I've eaten there and swear for 60 years that the smoked salmon there is the best in the world - it is sliced so thin you can almost see through it yet the flavour is incredible - light, delicious. As I watched him slicing it I asked if it was from Scotland to which he replied Oh yes - where else? I agree so much. Scottish smoked salmon is far and away the best. But it amuses me that the finest slicing is in Cannes at Astoux and Brun. And he agreed with me about Crevettes Grises - far and away the most delicious yet also the cheapest. The taste is very much like those wonderful shrimps in butter you can get in England.
