England Manager - yer what? 16 Years, 2 Months ago
Am I alone in finding it disgraceful that we need subtitles to understand an interview with the Manager of our own national football squad?

Even if we win the World Cup under his management, I'll still say the job should be given to an Englishman.

Currently I'm sitting aghast at the pundits saying that Beckham should have been picked ahead of players who've actually done something to deserve it, just so that he could have his 100th cap. What an insult to the current 'on form' players.

Coming from someone North of the border, Al... I can never understand any Scot!
No, I found his Italian charming, his attitude healthy and sensible, his selection positive - so far, so good I reckon.

Mind you, the game was pretty dull, especially compared to the magnificent Superbowl Sunday night.

Not sure he picked a positive strike force. Our two most on form English strikers are Dave Kitson and Andy Johnson who didn't even make the squad. And Wes Brown in defence????? Poor at both club and national level.

Still lots of work to do.

It was obvious that the Swiss players had been told not to risk injury and to avoid tackling. If this had been a competitive match we would have been swept aside with ease.

One of England's worst games so far.

Quick comment on the England game, thought it was quite boring, but I was delighted for Jenas (being a Spurs fan) getting the first goal and generally playing ok.

Credit also for Capello, he has picked players mostly on merit rather than who they are,

Man of the match was Joe Cole, closely followed by Bentley/Rooney.

Unfortunately for Ashley Cole, he was barracked by the supporters more for his 'off the field' actions. Not sure if that is quite appropriate when he's playing for his country.

Thought that the one minute silence was observed very well. I was not around in 1958, but the Munich air disaster was a tragedy.

Rooney ran around a lot and lost his temper a couple of times. He passed badly and missed a couple of easy chances. Can't fault his work rate, apart from the fact that it resulted in nothing.

I agree that Joe Cole was the Man of the Match. Not sure why Gerrard was given that honour; he wasn't our best performer. England were hesitant and disjointed. I'd give them 2 out of 5.

Back to Sunday League boys.

I`m afraid I fell asleep, but the lack of inclusion of Becks has ruined my yet to be released album closer, track 2 on

I must say though, I really don`t think it would have hurt giving him(Beckham) at least 2 minutes on the pitch to achieve that cap in an exhibition match.

Depends on how you look at it Mart. Beckham already had 99 chances to prove himself in an England shirt. Only so many players can be included in the squad and, if he had been one, he could have prevented a young, fit, on form talent from getting a one and only chance at that level. Friendlies are for trying out new talent and planning for the competitions ahead. They are not for sentiment or individual egos.

Is Beckham getting another cap more important than the future of English football?

I think it could have underlined a point politely for a couple of minutes.
